Title: 2018 Zero S brake pad question
Post by: JaimeC on May 19, 2021, 08:43:09 AM
Are these the right EBC pads to fit?

The unofficial manual recommended organic or semi-sintered (NOT sintered) pads to eliminate squeal.  Wanted to make sure these were the right ones to fit the stock calipers.

I installed EBC H-H sintered brake pads #FA209/2HH on the front caliper of my 2018 S and that eliminated the brake squeal that I was experiencing.  :)

Well I just ordered the pair I linked above.  Hope they fit...

Someone on the Facebook forum said he had better luck with Brembos.  I found part numbers but I couldn't find a single vendor on the planet that actually SOLD them.  :-\

I used these same ones at Richard's suggestion and they have been working great. No squeal. I hate to contradict the unofficial manual but I think it's wrong about sintered pads.

Guess I'll find out soon enough.  I should have them early next week.

My guess is that since they are EBC they should work well and I bet they don't squeal like the originals, either.  After you install them let us know what you think. Just be sure to clean the disc thoroughly before placing your new pads in service.

Pads installed.  Haven't ridden it yet (heading out to lunch in a few minutes).  Full report when I get back.  Based on what I read in the unofficial manual, I went with the semi-organics instead of the sintered pads as SUPPOSEDLY they squeal less.  You guys are telling me the EBC sintered don't squeal like the OEM ones so let's see how these work out.  I'm guessing the sintered pads would last longer?  Guess I'll find out.  The OEM pads still had more than enough "meat" left on them and the bike has just over 19,000 miles on it now.  I'm not hard on the brakes so that might explain that.  Most of the time I slow using just the regen.  I only use the brakes the final few feet before the traffic light or stop sign...

And I'm back from lunch.  Followed the directions and did some gentle stops from 25 mph and worked my way upwards.  The pads don't seem to have the initial "bite" of the OEM pads but they're nice and progressive and do allow some seriously hard stopping.  Best of all:  No ear-splitting SCREECH at the end!  So far, so good.
