Per operator's manual, bike is generally charged less than full and at least once every two weeks it's charged to 100%.
Not keeping written notes or video at this time but was watching the charge current and it alternates 0Amps to 4Amps cannot say how many times but seems reasonable to think a rest period is necessary prior to sample then repeat but anyway, looking for other owner input to help characterize normal (potentially buggy) behavior versus faulty behavior versus correct (as one would expect) behavior.
My observations of the balance phase terminating sequence...
- Display never transitions from 98% to 99%
- Headlights activate momentarily at sequence start - it seemed like 30-seconds or possibly shorter
- Display indicates "Unrecognized Fault - Contact Service" for same duration headlights activate
- Shut-Down occurs - display goes blank followed by the charger fan a few seconds later
- Activate ignition (fob in my case) to disconnect charge cable and display shows 100%
Appreciate anyone's observations that differ or match - assuming this is normal for now.

Mine usually displays a "Charge Complete" message and then the bike will turn off shortly after. I'm very rarely sitting watching it so I don't have photos or videos. Also I almost never charge to full at home. If I'm doing a balance I'll turn the amp request all the way down to 1 Amp at 98% and let it take as long as it needs.

Interesting, 0n the Eva Ribelle altering charge rate isn't an option from what I can tell - will have to go back and read OM.
Does the LED array on the tank go binky blinky or does it run steady state? Mine is covered by tang bag base so didn't notice it runs steady state and gets rather warm to the point I thought disconnecting may help the outcome of another full charge balance but no joy...

My gut says this is a logic issue w/ seat switch condition being defeated as part of the Top Box modification made to bike.
Will try again w/ seat switch in proper state and see if this fixes it - currently it's intact but taped closed.

You can definitely change the amp request; it remembers what your settings are for both AC and DC. While charging, turn the bike on, then just use the MODE button to adjust charge rate. Left is lower, right is higher.
The LED on mine is 2018 and doesn't do anything fancy; it actually only turns on when I turn the bike on, does its little routine, then turns off. If you want to alter what it does, the setting name in your preferences is BEAT LIGHT. You can deactivate it during charge because, if you've got a tank bag covering it, there's no need for it to be on. It does get quite warm, too.

I realized my Ribelle does exactly same as yours. Was lucky indeed to see once that the dash throw a general fault before shutting down when charging is finished. Because otherwise no way to know. It seems (but cannot fully remember) that it was not doing that at the beginning.
Like you. Afterwards when I turn it up it shows 100% but only for ~ 500m or so.
Also not sure if this is an issue or not. Any feedback from the community most welcome :-)

I have noticed as well on my 2018 EsseEsse9, shutting down with an unknown error after charge complete. It started after an update last year. Before that, the bike kept balancing at times after a charge saying "charge complete" (if you had SOC limit OFF).
There are a number of those unflattering programming bugs, happened around the time when Energica fixed the DC charge current issue. I hope that the new FW takes care of it.

Seat switch in proper state and camera set for 3-second time-lapse the following is the last frame prior to charger mode shut-down...

So, three samples taken and two results:
1) Tank LED connected (faulty steady-state display), seat switch closed while charging - undefined fault indicated at shutdown
2) Tank LED disconnected, seat switch closed while charging - undefined fault indicated at shutdown
3) Tank LED disconnected, seat switch open while charging - no fault indication captured
Wondering what ever happened to "Charge Complete" I've only seen this once ever and that was from babysitting first charge when bike was brand new.
Note - for case 1) - the balance phase took ~ 2-1/2hrs at 4A setpoint (alternating from 4A to 0V as previously mentioned) - case 2) and 3) represent short use intervals and the balance phase was correspondingly much shorter. No 0V (rest) indications prior to charger shutdown for either case 2) or 3) and note capacity is a whopping 81miles, is this estimate based on the prior ride and what good is this info if it represented a test session only...wishing this could be altered to not record for longer interval consideration...
Also - there's no "Beat Light" just "Charge Light" which toggles the headlights when selected...different model firmware perhaps.

I don't have a Ribelle here in front of me to show you but I've seen the menu for "Electric Beat Light" and it has like 4 settings for different pulse actions for the thing. Keep looking.

How do you change the seat switch (what means 'open' to you? I may try this just to confirm if this works as well.

Seb, biased to the right, look for a single fastener that retains the micro-switch behind the plastic...there's a hole that exposes the actuator tip touches the seat...here is what switch looks like...open meaning it isn't activated...

Update on my side:
I had a mail discussion with the dealer. I will bring it at some point there to have the firmware update but this is what he said about this behavior:
- Deplete the battery to limp mode and charge to full again => It should ease/improve the balancing process.
So I did. And while I still get sometime the charger to go to 0 amp (even at much lower SoC, I saw it happen at 27%) then comeback to full.
Anyhow indeed the balancing part went faster (I mean, still slow at the end like expected but overall faster). And most importantly I did not get the charge fault error at the 100% mark. This I notice by the fact that the charger was unlocked when I came to the bike in the morning.
Indeed it was a real long time (> 3month?) that I did not bring the battery very low. So maybe this is a sign that 'it is time' to do this full down and up again.
Anyway, I will discuss it with him in more detail when I go there (also the bug about the charge going to 0amp for short periods).

Thanks for the update! Do you know at which SOC the bike will go into limp mode? I guess I'll have to do this on my bike soon...

0 SOC. You still have a few miles left at 0 SOC in the limp mode.

Or could it be your 17% SOC is the same as my 0SOC? What year is your Energica?
I have only had mine in the limp mode one time, and even when I first hit 0 SOC it took around a half mile more to get into limp mode.

Oh I hit limp mode all the time. Exact same battery as yours. 2018 SS9.

To reply to above question,
In this particular case I went into Limp mode at 1%. To be noted prior to that I did a Full charge then 300km driving including 2x DC fast charge.
I suspect the start of limp mode will actually depend on battery temp and actual balancing of the cell. The logical think would be that limp mode activate once the lowest voltage cell reach the warning treshold... This is just speculation on my side though.

Sort of Necro bump but regarding this, I'm borrowing an SS9+ right now and the Electric Beat Light is definitely there. Top menu item which I believe is Preferences.
