Hey everyone,
I recently started using discord for work and realized how powerful it is. I decided to make a discord server for anyone who wants to join. We already have a little community going, and you are all welcome.
In the end, I hope to write bots that you can ask to have a pizza delivered to you while charging, can calculate range, and find chargers for you. As well as answer public knowledge questions. This could even include questions about error codes etc.,

Discord... The Gamer's IRC of the 21st century ^-^

I'm beginning to prefer Discord to forums.... though I am beginning to like Discourse forum software. I set one up a few months back and it's really quite nifty.

I always preferred in-game chat for games, but now that I am reintegrating into the tech world, I found some discord servers that really clicked for me, as opposed to being the dumpster fires that most are.
And it made me realize how much better it was than FB or anything else. Each platform serves its purpose, but if I could choose where to spend my time, it would definitely be heavily leaning towards a discord server than any of the other options.

Discord is harder to have longer conversations with, talk about subjects deeper among more people. It's more like a real conversation than a forum.
Forums are even more asynchronous than Discord, as threads stick around longer.

I certainly concur here. Not as straight forward to have a discussion thread like in a forum or any other social app.

Discord is more immediate, tho, and easier to use via mobile ^-^

Discord is great but beware, it can be the death of a forum (seen that happen a few times).

We'll figure this out eventually. I can see the forum become a source for information for a wider audience, while the Discord will serve as a place to fulfill the needs of some to highjack threads and tell about their live in them (not looking at specific individuals here :))

I see social media, forums, and discord being fundamentally different.
Discord is more of a private community that self governs where the former two are publicly visible and governed, as well as tracked, traced, and stored for search engines. As well as many having ads.
Discord is intended to be free, open, and self-governed. The content does not get exposed to the outside world without some intent to do so and is not tracked traced or stored by the search engines.
So I see the forum as still having a valuable place, but maybe just not for conversing. Better for real things that take much slower and longer conversation. Or things that we as data Shepards feel should be captured by the search engines for historical reasons.

Like the Buy/Sell/Trade page. It's much easier to get to arbitrary threads on a forum than in Discord.

Woot! We are over 100 users on the server now.
