Title: Polaris Ranger EV
Post by: shayan on March 01, 2021, 11:43:39 PM
Well looks like Polaris is wasting no time after the deal with zero: https://electrek.co/2021/03/01/polaris-to-build-full-size-electric-ranger-utility-side-by-side-vehicle/

I would be really surprised if Polaris goes with a small battery pack on the E-Ranger as I don't think that would sell well as the range would likely be too short. If their current ICE model sells for $12K I also would think that they would have a tough time matching that price. But it will be interesting to see what happens. I think the vehicle would fit well into a certain market, especially for government forest service usage.

A friend of mine has an EV conversion of one of them.  Uses it for light forestry.  Pretty cool, if you ask me.

The teasers have started to arrive. And Zero motorcycles are given almost as much time in the teaser as does the Ranger:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jBvN-3zj3c&feature=emb_title

I wonder whatever happened to the EV technology and power train manufacturing experience that they acquired from Brammo? Did all that go out the door when Polaris dumped Victory?

I also wonder if the EV Ranger will have a gearbox? You would think that at least a granny gear might be useful when climbing steep slopes or pulling logs around. Also a power takeoff would be a useful addition to the chassis.

Them showing the SR/F makes me think it might end up with the more powerful motor. I wouldn't be surprised if they can get away with not needing a gearbox (especially with the more powerful motor), I don't think these things are meant to go very fast so if they can limit it to about 60mph that doubles the torque compared to an SR/F (if the wheels are a bit smaller which they look to be). If they don't have one that will also mean that Zero will finally have a drivetrain with reverse.
