So QuantumScape has stirred up a lot of buzz with their, 300 million dollar, 10 years of research, finding of the latest solid state battery concept.

Do I remember correctly?  A metal has the atoms in a crystal structure but the electrons in the outermost orbit are basically shared.  Of course there are crystal grains it is not one big crystal.  Or is the word metal better defined differently here?
