Greetings Bay-Area electric motorcycle riders! It's time for the second Second Saturday San Francisco Circuit, an electric motorcycle group ride.
We'll meet by the charge point in the big parking lot south of China Basin park next to Pier 50 in San Francisco. Meetup at 10:30 am, kickstands up at 10:50.
The route is a big lap around the city inspired by the "butterlap" beloved by SF cyclists. We'll loop around the city going up along the embarcadero, along the marina green into the presidio, then we'll stop at the Battery East Vista (perfect, right?) to decide if we want to tack on a trip across the Golden Gate to headlands twisties and out to point bonita (depending on fog and group feeling about the toll), then head back through land's end, down the coast by the beach, and back across the city through the park. Check out the route here: https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=16AvFhqjpI3qORFdnz9N_Ue5pBRalVpaV&usp=sharing
We'll shoot to continue this on subsequent second Saturdays of the month moving forward--in case you are interested, but can't make it to this one.
Update: map looks better, not perfect, but almost right

If I had a bike :-\ These kind of rides are what I miss the most. Have a great time everyone! 8)

I got fed up with this forum a few months ago, but a colleague pointed out this thread.
I'm willing to try this group ride, but I have been put off by group ride manners/etiquette in previous years, and have since been riding with more experienced/calmer ICE motorcyclists.
I'll show up with my streamliner DSR, which gets 150 miles of range, enough to help others out in case anything goes wrong.

Sounds good!

I am planning on attending. Brandon is planning on attending. I have reached out to many other like-minded friends who are interested in attending. As I encouraged the OP to post on this forum I feel somewhat responsible for this event.
-
Thanks for the enthusiasm everyone!
MVetter, thanks for helping to connect me to this community, and putting the out word on this event.
BrianTRice, I hope this ride helps balance out whatever had you fed up with this forum. I really appreciate your planning to be ready to help out others in case anything goes wrong. I intend to set the tone for a calm, well-mannered ride; and I'm happy to take any suggestions or feedback.
Here's hoping that everyone has a fun, chill time!

It's too far for me in pandemic times.
Have fun!

Ah. I'll skip this, then, and keep riding with the more mature community I've joined.
-
Is Vetter not mature enough?

Definitely not. See the following thread for which he was banned:

That was like, ages ago, and you both seemed pretty unpleasant at the time.
Anyhow, I just wanted to say stay safe.
There's always what a little mistake will cause around here.

I still have them blocked on social media because they threatened me. My defensive posture in that thread is not the same as them jumping into the thread (which was not about them) to attack me.
-
But he didn't attack you in this thread. And I didn't know there was anything between you two. It was an innocent question gone horribly wrong.
You both are very important to this community.

He sure as hell did attack me in that thread, as did Brandon. And they are toxic members of the community who've attacked many of their customers and interfered wrongfully with business partners. I've held my tongue about them because they've threatened me, and I'm not the only one, I'm just the only one bothering to say anything about it.
-
I have not threatened you. You, however, insulted my father and called him names. My father with head trauma. My father, beloved motorcycle icon. And you said horrible things about him.
There is a pattern of this sort of behavior with you with trashing people behind their backs.
-
I’m planning to join - sounds like a good ride. See you tomorrow. :)
-
Guys, please. No one likes it when dad and dad fight.
The insults were from almost two years ago.
Is there some way to turn this into bygones?

Tony, I see you're rocking the A660 windscreen now :) Sorry to miss this one, but I had other things that needed to get done today...

How come nobody checked in on PlugShare if all you guys met there?
That location has ZERO (pun not intended!) check-ins.

Maybe no one needed electrons?
How did it go?
-Crissa
-
I'd say it was a success. 8 Energicas, 1 Zero, and 1 Alta. Our group is to blame for the late start. One of our 3 persons decided not to charge his motorcycle overnight and started the day with 22% battery. Nor did this person charge their Cardo PackTalk which ran out almost immediately...
-
Maybe no one needed electrons?
Then just leave a comment such as "it looks like it works, but I didn't need a charge". There are no entries at all for that location so how can anybody get a clue if it even has power?

Distracted by socializing I imagine. This would be an odd choice anyway, it's expensive, and there are free Volta stations nearby.

I took the alternate GA 50 mile route yesterday but I was with you guys in spirit.
Hey Togo what's the verdict on real world range on your + model Energica?

GA?

Without aero improvements, I'm totally comfortable 100 miles at full freeway speed with my Plus model (18.9 usable kWh). Alan yes that Alan Smith gets as much range on a battery 40% smaller!

Started a Google photos album, is you have trouble posting photosto this forum, dm me your Gmail address and I'll add you as a collaborator and you can use my excess Google one storage

Yes I'm in GA so that was my attempt at being amusing since a SF ride is clearly not possible for me. It was a beautiful and warm day so I did ride but there is a cold front coming which as I get older I have less and less tolerance for.
The ride sounds like it was a fun day though.
I have to say the range is a little disappointing but with your fast charging it makes longer trips doable.
-
Nice! Looks like everyone had fun. I know riding in a group takes alot more focus and reserve, aince other bikes can easily get closer fast than cara do,

Thanks again to everyone who participated and/or spread the word, I really appreciate it!
Feel free to reach out with any feedback that can make this a better event in the future.
I'll be out of town for December's second saturday, but feel free to meet and ride in my absence if anyone want to take up the mantle. Otherwise I'll be back in the new year and we'll do it again in 2021.
-
Thanks to Covid, i miss participating in my first EV ride/meetup :(
I hope the vaccine is out soon enough :-\

Ah, gotcha. It would actually be cool to have e-motorcycle events on both coasts on the same day; do you have any other riders near you?
Well on the Zero SR to make 100 miles with 13 kWh, I had to go like 35 MPH. With 18.9 and fast-dc I hardly have to worry how fast I ride.
