Title: SR/F headlamp wattage
Post by: petewarm on November 08, 2020, 03:34:52 AM
Hi all.

Anyone know the wattage of the current SR/F headlamp?

I'm asking as I'm about to fit a fairing with a 7" hole, so planning to get an LED headlight.
Would be nice to get same wattage ( both dip and full beam) so I don't get lots of error messages.

Thanks

pete

Just in case this helps . . .

Be sure VOM  has a ten amp scale.

But first check the voltage on the lamp when on. I assume it's  around 13 VDC.

Check the current in series with the lamp, when it's on.

Say it's 13 volts.  And you measure 4.5 amps.  13 volts times 4.5 amps=58.5 watts.

Just got headlamp off. Phew!  what a tight fit.

Back of headlamp says:

12V 1.6W (PL)
12V 14.7W (LB)
12V 20.2W (HB)
Which all seems very low.

Ill measure them tomorrow. Thanks fro advice on meter. pete

Is it a LED lamp?  They don't waste much wattage in heat, so they will be a lot lower in wattage for the same brightness.

Are you able to adjust the low-beam and high-beam individually ?

When my low-beam is good, the high-beam lights up the moon, which makes it useless.
I know this is a common problem, but I need to get it sorted.

I just measured the voltage and power draw:
SR/F headlamp electrical test            Voltage   13.1

   terminal   1   2   3   4   [bar between 3and4]
Main Beam
   Amps   0.18   1.61   0.45   0.45
   Watts   2.4   21.1   5.9   5.9
Dipped Beam
   Amps   0.18   1.38   1.19   0
   Watts   2.4   18.1   15.6   0.0

Summary:      Halo   Main   Dip   signal?
      2.4   21.1   15.6
   label:   1.6   20.2   14.7
On SR/F Dip stays om when Main beam activated
Therefore: Wattage to match for round headlight to fit fairing:
         35   15   Watts

So the rating on the back is spot on, but doesn't count the main and dip being on together.
The forth pin is weird, and I presume its some sort of signal line, maybe not DC, which is what I was measuring.
Any body any ideas about this? pete.
