Title: Current fast charging options for Zero FX?
Post by: Arnelon on November 01, 2020, 10:05:40 PM
Hello everyone :) Fairly recent Zero owner here (2018 FX) with a simple question, for those more in the know. What are the current options for someone in Belgium looking to fast charge a Zero FX? I looked again in all the usual places, but with Diginow gone and programmed Elcons no longer available (i think?), all I can see is buying a bunch of 1KW accessory chargers and Y connectors.

By the way, I really feel the need to thank all of you for contributing to this forum, it's really helped me along the way. And a special thanks to Brian for gathering so much of this information into a searchable wiki.

I think you can still buy Elcons, but you'll have to assemble them yourself.

Currently your best option is to order a TC HK-J charger (Elcon sells these as well) from China and get a Thunderstruck charge controller. That (3.3kw) + the onboard (~650w) will get you right at 4kw of charging.  You'll have to crimp all of the wires yourself though. If you are DIY enough you could make your own charge controller from an Arduino and  canbus transceiver.

If you don't feel confortable with DIY way, you can contact Lennart Otten from Germany, he have a shop and he sell the 3.3KW external chargers, see this thread: https://www.electricmotorcycleforum.com/boards/index.php?topic=8087.0

I can recommend the 3.3 kw Otten charger.
Get yourself a type 2 to 3-phase red and a 3-phase splitter to 3x Schuko. Then you can charge the FX with 3.3 kw plus whatever the OBC delivers.
In my opinion, that's a pretty good money per kw setup.

The Otten charger is great. It perfectly does the job.
