Hello All.
I'm in the UK, just picked up a Zero SR/S premium (didn't necessarily want the premium but it was good deal).
Being that I have a premium I was wondering about fast charging at home.
I have installed a dedicated 6 mm circuit protected by a 40 amp RCBO, at present this just runs to a 3 pin socket.
To be honest this is fine, but as an ever inquisitive engineer I quite often do things "because I can".
I am looking to install a QubEV so I can charge at 7.2 kW. I am guessing that this probably will supply up to 32A down L1, being that it is connected to a single phase supply.
I am also assuming that the SR/S premium simply has an additional charger and will still only charge at 16A max via L1. and that a second phase is required to utilise the second charger.
Does anybody know:-
1. Does the QubEV supply via L1 and L2 ?.
2. If I were to modify the system to supply via L1 and L2 from a single phase would the Zero be happy with this and charge at 32A.

Congratulation on your new bike. Not answering your question here but, rather, telling you how my nearly 17'000 km changed my view about rapid charging at home. In short, I realized I only need rapid charging when on the go.

At home, at the beginning I have been charging my bike at 2.8 kW (1 phase) but since about last month I have lowered it to 1.2 kW and I now charge later at night (my charger has a timer function), when the electricity cost less. With the diminutive size of the battery of our bike (14.4 kWh) charging duration is never a problem for me, even at 1.2 kW. Also, I think that charging slowly is better for the life expectancy of the battery.

Considering the chargers do upto 3 kW, you would never actually realize 7.2 kW chargespeed..
But.. they are connected L1 - N and L2 - N, so in theory you _should_ be able to load them parallely on one phase to get 6 kW.

I remember reading an article some time back, there was a laboratory that had dissected several types of LiIon batteries to see how charging affects them.
Using electron microscope, they revealed that the batteries take damage when charging, the amount of amperage when doing so had NO effect. Therefore, semi-quick charging not exceeding manufacturers recommendation and keeping the heat to a manageable level, should actually wear less on the battery than slow charging.

Based on that, feel free to plan ahead as desired. :)
