Manual says simply to turn thr knob to adjust it. Fingers will not move it wither way, i dont want to force it. My wife’s SR is the same way. There appears to be a very small, very hard to get to set screw in the knob that i thought about removing but i dont want to proceed until i know better. Any responses are appreciated.

I don't know what to say about that. My knob is hard to turn with my fingers, but it will turn. Perhaps you should try turning the knob while wearing a pair of gloves that will give your fingers better traction on the knob. If your suspension hasn't been adjusted since your bike left the factory, the knob should be somewhere in the middle of the range and it should be able to be turned in either direction without damage.
