Article says they are partnering with Zero motorcycles. Article says a few other parterning entities, I searched out Clean Seed mentioned on the Agriculture sector. Pretty specific product to seed plowed up vast flat soil from what I found. I want an electric category 2 utility tractor more than an electric motorcycle, really seems sensible if one has a few tractors, not aware of any yet.

Right, isnt it the weight of the additional controllers as well and not just the motor itself? I guess they would've weighed the trade-offs well enough to make that design choice. Dual motor with a low rpm torque and a high rpm torque certainly makes sense. Its kind of having a implicit gearbox.

Well, every motor would need a controller. And every motor needs a clutch or drive system or some way not to provide drag...
So this multi-wound motor thing is pretty cool tech. The moment I heard it called coil drive I knew that's what it was.
You can probably even re-use some of the components in the motor controllers since you're just pathing the pulses differently inside the motor; you don't need an entire other controller for each mode.
Tesla so far has done it by disengaging a motor electronically at higher speeds so that it's more efficient; but the tri-motor works differently.
Anything to be lighter on a motorcycle, tho.

Very simple concept. It will be interesting to see what configurations of series-parallel windings make the most sense for Zero's usage model. Seems like it would just be another level of switching on the controller, since most probably use parallel switching/drive elements anyway, that may not really increase the size/weight much if at all, just some additional cabling.

I assume you are refering to just an engineering exercise, one of two 1400 hp versions that look like the electric mustang coming to market soon. I think it (the 7 motor variant) is supposed to do tricks and smoke shows showing off the potential with modern technology.

From what I can see , the ICE analogy is a variable cams profile.
This seems to also make a great tech for off road vehicles.
