It's performance. Just reading the posts here should tell you people are more interested in performance than anything else. It's why the SR and DSR outsell the S and DS even though those latter two models are THOUSANDS of dollars cheaper (and cheaper to insure). It's also why Zero doesn't even bother selling those models in the US with the 14.4 battery anymore (though they still do in Europe).
Personally, I AGREE with you... but market statistics do not. Everybody wants to be the fastest kid on the block. NOBODY wants to be the most sensible.

I don't think the majority of EV riders are too worried about the extra 30bhp that the SR/F offers over the SR (in fact it doesn't seem to make much difference) - the SR is already laugh-out-loud fast at real world speeds, and going any faster drains the battery so fast the fun is very short lived. The main reason I think is that the SR/F comes with traction control, modern dash, and actually looks good.
Obviously nobody is going to complain about more power... but I'd rather they invested in belts that don't snap and BMS/MBB/OBCs that don't fry expensively.

My main concern is that the new battery pack voltage will be greater than 200VDC. If it's still low, it's just another step down the not-DC-charge-compatible road. Please, please raise the voltage!

I can imagine this making the bike more efficient if they can tune the two torque profiles to be better than one broad one (although perhaps it will only be better at higher speeds and it's already as good as it gets at low speeds), if so that could end up bringing prices down in the sense that you wouldn't need as large a battery. It may even make raising the voltage easier as you could have more cells in parallel while keeping the same in series, or it may reduce the amount needed in series (current draw).

Yeah, I was thinking that it could be used to tune the battery voltage to the motor optimum since it seems to just be using patterns of pulse width modulation but backed up with the shape of the coils being used.
It's a neat idea but something that has been theorized as plausible (but too difficult to actually do) for a long time.
