Hi all!
I was just trying to remove the front caliper on my 2019 FXS to lube the back of the brake pads in hopes I can lessen the embarrassing (and hand-vibrating) howl that happens _all_ _the_ _time_...
Anyhoo, ignoring that, I’m encountering the first bike I’ve had where the caliper doesn’t appear to actually fit between the rotor and the wheel — so after removing the caliper mounting bolts, I’m unable to remove the caliper. I was about to start removing the rotor since that seems the only path to success I can see. But I thought I’d ping the experts.
Do you need to remove the front rotor to remove the front caliper on the FXS?

If I'm remembering correctly, I had a similar problem with my SR. I think once I dropped the inside pad I was able to get the caliper out. I contributed to an entry in the Unofficial Manual about this.

That is the way to do it. Remove one or both pads and the caliper should come right off. My recollection is that once the retaining pin at the rear of the caliper is removed, the pads should slide right out.

Thanks all! A T20 removed the retaining pin — and once the inside pad drops it’s an easy off. Much appreciated!

Learning to remove your pads was not a waste of time. When the grease doesn't do anything, you can remove them again and switch to EBC pads. FA209HH I believe on the front. These, HH are also semi sintered but they make a variety of compounds in organic, carbon, etc. signified by the last 2 letters. I have found the performance to be excellent and noise to be gone! They are half the cost of stock (I found them on ebay for around $35) which work fine but are very metallic and therefore noisy.
