45k+ miles on the clock.
It’s only happened a handful of times but twice this past Sunday.
I have a 2003 BMW R1150RT and it experienced the same condition.
Turned out to be a total severing of the power inlet wire into the ignition switch.
It was due to undue stress due to the way the factory zip-tied the wire loom.
It was a common issue & fortunately the bmwst.com community was able to give me tips on how to disassemble the ignition switch so I could make a sound repair (had to replace the wire as not enough length to splice).
I’ve not yet dig into the problem on my Zero yet (is not too great of an issue at this time & doesn’t readily show its self).
It’s happened mostly backing out of its parking spot in the garage that involves full handlebar lock (CCW) as well as full decompression of front suspension.
It’s as if full/all power is being cut to or from ignition switch.
All lights die but then reappear a second or so later.
Anyone else see this issue?
Not much re ign switch in the unofficial manual.
Any tips/insight including ign switch info appreciated.

The switch itself is not hard to replace. I'm sure many of the facets that applied to your BMW apply here, if the harness wear is the issue. I've heard of this exactly happening to a few people with Zeros. It would be best to stay ahead of it and not have your bike die in traffic or in a corner.
It could be another issue though, like DC-DC converter intermittent. If you say it is related to the handlebar though I'd inspect the harness and try to reproduce the problem.

Agreed best to be proactive but it’s a balance as I’m not able to replicate the issue at this time.
Hard to fix what isn’t broken but in time the issue will progress and show it's self more readily.

If you pull the logs and decode them, sometimes they have a hint. Ignition turning off and on is logged, and would help confirm root cause

Well I was able to figure out how to download & send email of logs but unfortunately that’s as far as I can go as I’m a bit of a luddite I’m afraid :(
I’m thinking the issue will be a compleat break in the incoming hot into the switch.
This wire will be the biggest (gauge) as it has to feed all switched loads.
The fact that it’s the heaviest likely makes it most susceptible to flex fatigue.
Just have to wait a bit until the intermittency becomes nearly predictable but not a forgone conclusion (IE leave me stranded).

Correct. Greg Hassler hosts it and ran into server troubles recently. I've meant to re-host the service but haven't finished the migration. I did fix a number of bugs in that parser, but browser-parse is the one to use for now.

Had a new development this past Saturday.
I had returned home from work (my employer has deemed me essential) & plugged the bike in to charge & instead of hearing the Contactor pull in & the green charge light illuminating, the High Temperature warning light was flashing.
I tried Turing the key on/off, unplugging/plugging the power back in but no change.
I configured the “A” on the dash for error codes & found the following..
8 (Hi Batt Temp)
11 (Batt Temp 2nd Stg)
25 (Contactor Open Warning)
45 (Kickstand Switch Disable)
47 (MBB Charger Connected Disable)
48 (Sevcon Start Up Disable)
49 (Contactor Open Disable)
Never saw #10 (Batt Temp Warning 1st Stg)
At one point, the motor temperature reading would fluctuate with 1031f displayed at least twice. For the most part it did reflect a more realistic value of 118f.
Eventually the faults went away & normal operation was restored & charging commenced.
I downloaded the logs & see lots of recent abnormally high entries, but nothing about High Battery Temperature.
I’m guessing it’s an anomaly that will once again rear it’s ugly head :(
