Does Revzilla sell a windscreen for the FX (2019)?
« on: February 07, 2020, 03:00:01 AM »

Hi. I have been trying to find a decent windscreen for my 2019 FX.  I've done some searches on this forum and see that the screen for a DS might work, but it wasn't definitive.  Another post made reference to a company outside the US and I live within the US.  I usually get parts for my other bikes at Revzilla and would like to get a windscreen from there as well.  Any ideas?  Thanks in advance.

SDS screens will work as they mount to the bar clamps, at least the OEM (MRA) ones do. Only thing is it won't be precisely shaped to go around the headlight, it shouldn't cause any interference but you'll have a funky looking gap. One of those Barracuda screens that use the headlight mounting bolts won't work of course.

I think the National Cycle Defector Screen DX is worth checking out.  It is my favorite handlebar mounted windscreen.  Once the bar brackets are in place, it only takes a few seconds to remove and replace.

I also find Zero / MRA's windscreens to be unstable at high speeds - the two-point mount is often below the center of pressure, so the windscreen can wave up and down a bit if the mounts aren't tightened fully.

I moved the mount holes up on one of my screens just to prove that it would fix the issue, and it did. But that requires longer mount stalks and a drill bit that won't crack the PCA plastic, so it's not a good use of money, just something I did while tinkering to prove a point.

MRA make screens that fit to the contours of the SDS headlight (the Stealth Shield one in those links that Brian posted for example). I wonder if they specifically made it to fit or whether it's just a lucky coincidence.

That has been my experience, also.  The Zero accessory MRA screen has a poor mounting system.  The windshield connection mount is located too low on the shield, resulting in the windshield tilting backwards while you are riding due to wind pressure.  This is a poor design and should have been tested more thoroughly by Zero.

What I ended up having to do was to correctly mount the windshield at the angle and location that I wanted and then glued the pivots between the windshield mounting rod balls and the plastic windshield hardware with some UV-activated glue that I found on my glue shelf.  So far that has worked and the windshield has stayed in place without tilting backward up to 75 mph.  :)

Soldering iron will make holes without making microfractures.  Indeed, the material from the hole will add thickness around the hole, reinforcing rather than weakening.
