Chinese company announces copy of Zero SR/F and Arcimoto
« on: January 08, 2020, 01:33:03 AM »

Niu announced their new electrics at CES.  A 100 mph motorcycle and a trike.  Interestingly, they don't seem to get the same wattage to range as their American cousins, which is unusual in Chinese marketing, so I assume these are actual numbers and not just mathematical estimates.

Nice city bike but I don't see where they're comparing it to either the SR/F or Arcimoto. Looks like they're being honest about its intended usage.

How about a Chinese company making a copy of the Lightning Strike.   ;)

They're not, but they're calling it an smart motorcycle and it's supposed to have the same features, aside from power.  So the click-bait is mine ^-^

NIU is a big player in the electric scooter (Vespa-type) market -- they've sold about a million (cumulative since 2014), so if they're serious about production, it could be significant. A 30kW motor may not sound like much compared to Zero/Energica, but it's a lot more than their typical current 3kW scooters, and enough for decent speed in terms of sharing roads with cars. My first actual motorcycle (after previous moped & Vespa) was a 400cc 1987 Suzuki, which had 42 HP / ~31kW, and could hit 85-90mph.
7kW isn't a big battery, but range should be enough for ~50-60 miles at suburban speeds (40-45mph).  I'm very curious what this will be priced at.

Yeah, it clearly competes with the lower-level Zero S, while they market it as having all the luxury features.

There's not much stopping them pouring them into the US market, either.
