SR/F update info from FB
« on: November 06, 2019, 08:05:35 PM »

Last night James D from the FB group reported that he installed the newly available firmware update and now his bike will not turn on.
I did get notification that the update was available but chose not to apply it.

Mostly I wanted to post this here to maximize the discussion and information sharing.
Has anyone here applied the update that was just released?  What were your results?

I got the update on my SR/F today and installed it. During update headlight was on and progress bar visible on the dash (where soc is). At the end however the lights were out and dash displayed something like "installing firmware.... reboot to complete..." but nothing happened. I just turned the key to off position and back on and the bike was working fine.

Software version is now 5V02 from the menu on the bike. Not sure what it was before. This is the second update I get since I received the bike back in august.

Here is a link, with a short description, of the Zero firmware updates that have been issued.  (Note that sometimes the updates come out a couple of days before this list is also updated):  https://www.zeromotorcycles.com/owner-resources/firmware/

I successfully updated last night and the only difference I have is the upon turning to on position the entire dash illuminates then goes back to normal. Other than that it’s good. Still haven’t tried charging it we will see tomorrow morning

Ok let me get back to this. I originally posted everything went fine after the update. However I didn't use the bike yesterday other than checking if it would run (and it did). The bike wasn't plugged in and sat around 80% soc.

Overnight I let it charge up to the usual 95% and this morning for the first time ever I couldn't use it because it didn't want to release my charge cable. I tried every possible combination and sequence of turning the bike on and off, having the cable plugged in the wall socket or not, breaker tripped in the cable or not.

It was charged up tot the 95% so also didn't charge when I gave it power. Then I tried removing the charge limit and it started charging but always just for a little while, never longer than a minute. Also the dash sometimes stayed on while turned off or didn't show the charging dash. Even once had a square underneath the SOC value with just noise, like you used to get on televisions.

I did see some error codes, 35 and 38 so I also tried going into the menu te remove all errors one by one. That didn't help.

In the end I removed the seat and the plastic part at the key lock for the seat to access the 12V battery. Removed the negative terminal and within 30 sec I heard the lock release. Luckily that worked. So now I keep a T30 for the main seat, a T25 for the plastic and a No 10 socket for the terminal just in case.

Edit: not so much an issue but also new on my bike since the update is that all the warning lights besides the LCD panel in the dash now light up when I turn the bike on. Before that was only like engine and abs. Now even the blue full beam indicator lights up.

Edit2: keeps doing it. Had to disconnect 12V battery again to get the cable released :-(. This time with another cable to a type2 charger, so it's not cable/charger related. It's the bike. I'm heading to my dealer now since he's replacing the front brake switch for the brakelight. Let's see what they can do.

That's wild. Just to be clear, you have the European Type 2 connector (Mennekes) version, right? I saw the FB post related to this, and it was unclear whether the SR/F was European spec or American spec with the J1772 socket. As far as I can tell, the American J1772 variant does not have electronic socket locking capabilities (just the physical latch/button, which may at least signal the controller to stop).

FWIW, no problems with my US SR/F after the update.

EU model indeed. The cable locks in place while charging but normally releases when done or when you power up the bike.

At the dealer now. They'll try to update again over cable to exclude issues with the OTA update.

Does yours now also show all the warning lights next to the display left and right on boot?

I updated the firmware on my bike too, and I haven't noticed warning lights coming on at boot up. I'll look more closely when I ride it later today.

Yes all lights on, but some for just an instant. What's the significance?

Nothing since you also have it. Must be a new feature of the latest firmware. Mine didn't do that before so I was thinking maybe that was an indication of a failed update.

In the shop there was no more support from zero since I arrived outside office hours and the dealer didn't want to risk bricking mine without support since I had to get home. So no update so far.

Same for me. The lights all come on now during boot, they didn’t before.

All warning indicators are supposed to light up during boot.  This is normally a safety feature so you know all indicator lights are working or all symbols exist.

Are they not turning off?  Were they not cming on before?
