My local dealer stated than the FX/FXS line will remain mostly unchanged for a while because of a military contract.  Parts and availability must be around for 10 years.  'Not sure if that's true, so take it for it's worth.

Assuming so, Zero could certainly update and improve the basic FX model if they chose to for consumers, but being a small company, it probably doesn't make financial sense to have another line at this time.

Military contract?  That is interesting.  I bet the military uses Zeros for base patrolling.

You may recall that Alta was working on a hybrid electric motorcycle for the military, probably for the special forces so that they could travel long distances on fuel and then switch to electric for the last few miles.  But I guess that didn't pan out for either party.   ???

This has been out for a while, so it make sense.

Now this is pure speculation on my part, but I wonder if the chain drive was made specifically for the military and its offering to consumers is simply a by-product.

This is by all appearances true for the drop bars and luggage racks on X and S platforms.

So I think this is how they developed, as fleet kits for police and the military, in 2012-2013, and then the store came online in late spring 2013 with those options.

For what it’s worth, in 2013 before Zero offered an accessories store, I ordered luggage racks for my 2013 by asking my dealer how to get the police racks which they had on demo display and the website.
