Also, weird, why is the forum set to Bangladesh Standard Time?
« on: September 18, 2019, 01:25:17 AM »

Why is the server set to Bengladesh or Omsk time? ^-^

I don't mean to impugn the hosts, as this is just my insatiable curiosity.

I don't have a clue.  ??? Right now the forum says it is 3:05 AM, while it is 2:05 PM Pacific Daylight Time here.

I've always wondered the same thing, but thought it was just me and didn't want to look stupid, so I never said anything. Glad it's not me.

Set the time in your profile and even the time on the top right side of the screen will change.  My time here says "September 17, 2019, 08:53:14 PM "  and that is the real time here.

Here are some better instructions.

1. Click on your username, which is to the left of any of your forum messages.
2. Look under "Modify Profile".
3. select "look and layout".
4. Set your offset time (you can use the auto-detect  feature). Mine is "-13" for the west coast of the USA.
5. Click on "change profile",

I just now changed mine again for a 24 hour format.

The time now here is  shown as "September 17, 2019, 20:58:24"

For the west coast of California the correct offset SHOULD be -7.0 for GMT-07:00 (PDT). It would be unfortunate if the forum software SMF 2.0.15 uses a non-standard scheme. In fact, the forum seems to have a bug. For me it shows dates in the equivalent of GMT-06:00, no matter what I submit in the offset field (-7 or -13).

For the west coast of California the correct offset SHOULD be +7.0 for GMT+07:00 (PDT). It would be unfortunate if the forum software SMF 2.0.15 uses a non-standard scheme. I too thought it was odd that GMT is not the default time, but as long  we can set it, it makes no difference. What happens when you use the "auto-detect"  feature to set your local time?

And did you check "change profile" at the end so it all gets saved?

That was my point.  I should type in -7 or -8 (depending on DST) for Pacific time.

But the server base time isn't set to Universal, it's like UT+6.

So I had to type in -13 to get the right time.

Which is just weird^-^

I did make sure to save the changes. Autodetect said -13 but it didn't appear to work. The date shown next to the box does not update at all despite saying that it should, which contributes to the confusion.

And now, after I logged out and back in, the dates appear correctly (with -13). For some reason I frequently get logged out regularly on Firefox but not on Chrome. I've been through the cookie settings. I wish this forum used Xenforo...

I only use Firefox (60.9.0esr <64bit>) and I don't have any weird problems here. And I have never been logged out. Perhaps you should start out fresh with a FF reset.  In FF, see Help--Troubleshooting Info-Refresh Firefox.

I get logged out lots, but I connect with different devices and am not consistent with pressing the 'forever' check box.

But if I click the login link although it sends me to the login page it recognizes the cookie, so there's that.

Hmmm, OK I tried that but I still have to log in at every visit (and I'm checking Always Stay Logged In). Interestingly, if I'm logged in, then open a new tab and go to electricmotorcycleforum.com, the new tab is always logged out!

Try this.

1. Close this forum--IOW, leave it for a few seconds or longer. Close Tab and all.

2. Come back to this forum. It WILL  ask for you to log in. Do NOT enter your userer name or password.

3. Click on log-in. Again, do not enter anything.

4. See if you're then logged in withOUT a username or password. You should see your own username just above the log-in prompt that proves you're logged in.
