So I bought a 2014 Zero S 8.5
« on: September 07, 2019, 03:29:06 AM »

I've never owned or ridden motorcycles before.  But my mother, father, and spouse have.  So it's not like I didn't know about bikes.  I mostly bicycled; mostly lately taking my moly frame mountain bike through the mountains here where 20 miles means going up and down several hundred (or thousand) feet pretty often.  I was to the point I could manage Mount Hermon without stopping... But anything steeper was a pusher.

But... That's not terribly useful for groceries, you know?

So my spouse wanted a new bike.  And I'm no stranger to being on the back (tho mom said no when I was a kid, so it was only borrowed mopeds for me) and we live not far from where Zero is made.  So of course I pay attention to them.

Her main (to her) use is driving from Santa Cruz to North Beach in San Francisco and back.  The traffic had been getting to her, and she wanted a bike again - we hadn't ridden in seventeen years and she hadn't ridden in ten and we'd given up the old Honda CB900C when it wouldn't turn over anymore - so I tried to talk her into Zero.  They're so cool, right?

So fast forward, we got this great deal on a Ducati Scrambler Icon for her ($1500 off, 0% financing? They must be hurting for sales) and she kept looking for a pedal-assist or something electric for me and realized that the low-range Zero models would fit most of my use, too.  So she used the cash we'd saved up for hers and bought me a used Zero.  It's no class three stealth class one bike but... Now I ride a motorcycle.

What's not to love about getting 500+ MPGe?  And we live in the mountains, so every trip is already lovely.  And we went to the beach last week and didn't have to sit in traffic on the way back.  That's... Astounding.

Anyhow, I've already found this forum to be really useful.  The pictures of others maintaining or modding is so helpful!  Tho it took me awhile to get connected... I think maybe it didn't like my OS X generated password or something?  I had to prod the site to give me a new registration email (it didn't send me the first one!) and then go through the password reset a couple of times before I could log in.

Thanks!

Thanks!  I'm working on it.

I had my first tail-slip today.  Hit the back brake too hard in a hurried stop.  I was kinda amazed how stable the bike was in that state.  I braked with the front to keep slowing while balancing out braking with wheel spin.  I do that on my bicycle all the time, tho I'm no downhill demon.  It's so much more physical than in a car!

Anyhow, thank you for the greeting ^-^
