New to me SR/F
« on: August 29, 2019, 06:10:37 AM »

Well I finally picked up my new bike today along with rain and a potential Hurricane.  Got to drive it home.  Really happy with the way it runs and rides.  I think once I figure it out, I will really enjoy it.  But first a couple of newby questions.

1.  Does a paper owners manual come with the bike?  The dealer says online only but that is sure a problem when you accidentally turn on the heated grips in 95 degree weather and you don't know how you did it.  Sure would be nice to have something to look at on the side of the road while your hands are cooling off.

2.  I cannot get the app to connect to the bike.  I go through the setup procedure, the Bluetooth on the phone is active but nothing happens.  The app defaults to "Demo" mode and when you toggle it to non-demo, nothing happens.  The phone isn't being discovered in the app and nothing is showing up in the phone that it is trying to connect to anything.

3.  When you move the bike, the motor (or something near the motor)will make a sound sort of like a pedestrian warning sound on an EV for about 30 seconds and then stop.  Is this normal?

4.  Even though the bike is in an air conditioned garage at 75 degrees for the past 6 hours, the battery temp indicator is near the upper level mark.  The motor temp is at the low end of the scale.  Is this something I should be concerned about?  The bike made the trip from the dealer with no problems but I don't know why the temp is high.

Other than those things, the bike is really nicely built with great fits and finishes--the exception being the lid on the tank box.  Only one minor issue, the belt guard was almost rubbing on the belt and required a couple shims to move it into a better position away from the belt.  While looking at the belt, I was really surprised at how easy it would be to change the belt.  I looks like it can be changed by simply loosening the axle nut and working the belt off around the rear mudguard.  I was having nightmares thinking about having to remove the swingarm or taking the frame apart on the side of the road if a belt broke.  Good design Zero.  Another interesting thing was a tag on the bottom of the power pack that was visible after removing the lower scoop.  It had the Zero S/N and the Zero P/N for the pack printed on it along with a label that said "NOMINAL 13081 Wh"  To come up with an odd number like that, I wonder if Zero is capacity testing each pack and listing the original capacity for reference.  Maybe all of the packs are the same number but you think they would round it off to something even like 13 KWh.

I might get some riding in tomorrow morning and maybe Friday but the riding chances in Florida are looking dismal for the Labor day weekend.

Going back to my first Zero that I bought in 2012, Zero has never supplied a paper owner's manual.  That year I received a key chain fob with a thumb drive attached. I took it to a print shop and they printed off a paper copy of the manual by downloading the manual from the drive.  Last year I was able to go online to Zero's website and downloaded the manual for my 2018 S, which I printed off using my home printer.

manual is online, easy to find.
And that manual will provide you with the tips needed to connect your phone with your new ride. Enjoy!

1. The bikes use to come with the manual on a USB drive, which is still hard to read by the side of the road. I've emailed the manual to my Kindle account so that it's on my phone and easy to read. I've also downloaded the manual to my computer and printed pages I thought were critical to carry on the bike, like how to set the clock, torque specs, error codes, etc.

3. Sound when pushing the bike is normal and usually attributed to the motor.

I did download the manual but I will have to put it in the phone so I have it with me.  I just found the error code section and the bike is reporting the following error numbers.  4-9-15-26-28-29-36-37.  This can't be real as some of them limit the power output and set a CEL.  I cleared each of them and will see if they come back tomorrow.  I wonder if they were never cleared after the bike was built.  Also when you go to cellular, it shows not connected.  I still can't get the app to do anything and never see the Bluetooth light on the dash.  If you phone is connected to the app, what is the name I am looking for under "my Devices" in an I-Phone?  Thanks for your help.

You should see a "ZERO_12345" on your phone, where the "12345" is the actual serial number of your bike (the last 5 digits, that is)

Regarding #4, My SR/F is usually pretty near the little line on the battery temp (upper part), but it's never gone over it (including riding on the highway going 75 in 90+ degree heat).  Nothing to worry about there.  I just passed 2700 miles...  You're going to love it!

For the SR/F you would need the zero motorcycles nextgen app. That may be why it doesnt connect.

Good find on the nominal wh sticker! I’ll check mine as well.

Thanks remmie---I had the wrong app.  All good now.  This forum is great for a new owner to get familiar with his new bike

Custom modes are not very well designed, maybe we can hope for updates later...
If you create one, you must tap the 3 dots and then "active this mode" or something like that.
If you create an other you can't active both of customs and switch them on the bike, you must use you phone every time (or i missed something)

The custom mode on my 2017 dsr is very easy to work with. Are you saying the sr/f is harder? Or do you think the custom mode on all Zero models are bad?

It is a little harder, but not much.

Now about the 12 volt battery.  The manual says do not hook any accessories to the battery.  Just uses the accessory plugs, which I have not found.  They make it sound like the 12 volt converter has different taps for the battery and other 12 volt systems.

Where is everyone hooking up their electric jackets?
