Elk Grove Power Sports
« on: August 24, 2019, 04:40:20 AM »

I am now on the way back from EGPS. I am  charging at the Wal-Mart that did not work the last two times I was here, in Elk Grove. I am using  the J-1772 plug on my Zero SR. But my first six credit cards were declined. And I am sure it is not a problem on my end. I have many credit cards, so since I am at a Wal-Mart, i tried my Wal-Mart credit card and it worked perfectly. I cannot say if the CCS chargers here have the same problem of only accepting Wal-mart credit cards.

Anyway, as I was waiting for my Zero SR to have the FW updated and motor commissioned,  I BSed with several guys in both service as well as in sales about my Energica SS9. They really want to see it. They never even heard of it, but they considered themselves an Italian cycle shop. So I told them I will ride my SS9 down there tomorrow. I am hoping to be able to convince them to try to be an Energica dealer. They seem very interested, but nobody has talked yet to the guy who runs the place, but he should be there tomorrow.

If anybody else with a Energica  can make it, please be there tomorrrow the 24th. I know this is short notice.

There are five CCS chargers here at this Wal-Mart on Elk Grove Blvd, right next to Hwy 99. None of them are now being used.

I hope to see some other Energias at EGPS  tomorrow. I will be especially nice if one of the other two models can show up.

They already looked at the bike on the web, they now want to see it for themselves.

If anybody else can make it, tell me the time. I have all day.

Very interesting. Does Energica use dealerships or are they direct sales?

I just rearranged a few things. I'll be at Elk Grove Powersports around 10am but I'll have to leave there no later than noon for some late afternoon commitments.

@Shadow: Energica sells through authorized dealers only as far as I know. Currently in the Bay Area, CalMoto's Mountain View shop (they have a sister shop in Livermore) is the only dealer. Their North America dealer service and sales center is in Redwood City.

That will be perfect! EGPS service shop closes between 1300-1400 hrs. I forgot to mention that. Even if you and I are the only ones to show up, it helps to make it look like it's a more popular bike!

Besides, you need to see my new SS9!

BTW, did you get your CA lic plate yet? If so, how long did it take to get after you purchased the bike?  I have a new license plate helmet lock for my SS9, but I figure I will wait until I get my plate to install it.

I am now having lunch at Yummy Cafe in Sacramento.

See the dealer map here.

They could use a few more dealers. Hopefully Elk Grove and Reno. ;D

I am doing my part to help make it happen.

Last time, did you use the Wal-Mart CCS charger?  If so, did it accept a non-Walmart credit card for you?  I assume the J-1772 is  only  wired to their own credit card system for now. But that is okay with  me  as I do have and carry  a Wal-Mart credit card.

Of course, this time we will meet at EGPS instead of the Walmart. We can charge at the Walmart before or after. On the way down, I will see if the Rocklin HD shop charger for the LiveWire is in service yet. Last time I was there, it was  installed but not connected up.  The one at the Harley shop in Reno is working. But it only charges at 15 KW max. But at least for now, it is free to use. I was told I was the very first to use it, so I checked in at Plugshare.

BTW, today, the Walmart J1772 charger was saying I was charging at 6.9 KW. I wonder if I really was. Perhaps my two Elcons put out a little more than 2.5 KW each (plus the on board at ~1.3 KW, IIRC).

It cost me $2.17 to charge there to 100%. I took the freeway back at as fast as I wanted, up to 80 MPH at a couple of spots.  I got back with exactly 50% SOC left from the Elk Grove WalMart. But some of that was at slow speeds as there was some commute traffic today. And I don't lane split often. The conditions have to be perfect before I do, such as when the traffic is totally stopped. I ride much like a big  chicken, perhaps that's how I survived riding for 55 years.

I will now check in at the WalMart and mention it ONLY works with Walmart credit cards.

BTW, is there ANY spec. that are SS9 does NOT beat compared to the LiveWire? Is there anything that the LW does better than the SS9 other than perhaps less maintenance?  We have to admit the SS9 is a high mainatence bike for an EV with the oils and coolant.

CU 2-morrow at  EGPS at 1000 hrs.

Success!

Elk Grove Power Sports put in their application to become an Energica dealer!

How long it will take for them to complete all the BS and become a dealer  is anybody's guess, but expect a few months.

The only things the Livewire does better than the SS9 are:
1) Larger battery
2) Better app to bike connectivity

The larger battery may translate to better range but until we get real world range reports I’ll reserve judgement there. Their app to bike connectivity is definitely better not to mention their dash is responds directly to touch.

Things the Livewire definitely does worse than the SS9 on:
1) No true level 2 (240v) charging
2) Slower DC charging
3) Less torque
4) Pricing...$9k MSRP price difference

I’m not sure just how much less maintenance the LiveWire will be since it’s also got an oil cooled motor (I think) and transmission oil/fluid (I’m pretty sure on this one) that will need to be changed regularly like the Energicas. I don’t know what the maintenance interval is like for the LiveWire yet. I think the only thing it doesn’t use is a liquid cooled inverter like the Energicas.

Regarding Elk Grove Power Sports...I agree, that’s awesome news! The more dealers, the more options we have for sales, service, and accessories.

I would say the LiveWire should have around a 9K$ difference between it and the SS9.

That is if the LW price is 9K$ less than ours!
