...almost a month out of warranty.
« on: August 19, 2019, 02:38:19 AM »

Two days shy of one month out of warranty, my SR failed to charge. I plugged it in at work last Tuesday, the contactor closed, and the green light started blinking as usual. When I returned at the end of my shift to unplug it, the green light was lit solid but I didn't notice the SOC. Once I climbed on to ride home I noticed the SOC at 71%, same as when I parked it in the morning. When I got home I plugged it in using a known good 20 amp outlet and got nothing. No green light, no contactor, nada, zip, Zero!  ::)

I have since checked for codes on the instrument panel, it shows 0000, normal.

Does my description above sound like typical symptoms for an on board charger failure?

Sounds like it could be. I'd pull logs with the app and email them to Zero. Several people on here have got them to goodwill a replacement.

I emailed my logs to Zero, dropped my bike off at my dealer on Friday August 30, and picked it up repaired, today.

I am very happy to have my Zero back. Commuting on my VFR the past month has been brutal! ::)

Thank you very much Zero for doing the right thing and covering diagnostics and replacement of the charger under warranty. And thank you Andy (Service Manager @ Pacific Motorsports) for persuading them to do so, on my behalf.

So the chargers still keep failing on newer bikes ?

It will unfortunately take a while before an actual final dropoff in charger failures is something we can identify.

There’s a revision for 2019 that might have done it, but it’ll take late next year to really see an effect if it exists.
