Anyone else with factory heated grips installed notice that even on the highest setting they don't seem to get very hot. On the cool morning commute, I can only feel them about half the time, the rest of the time I don't notice them. This is a far cry from my Trophy which only has high and low. High on my Triumph is only really useable if the temps drop below 40 otherwise it's too hot. The low setting on my Triumph gets hotter than the high setting on my EsseEsse9.
Is this normal? I'm having the dealer look at it when I drop it off for its initial 600mi check but just wondering if other owners have experienced the same.
A lot of this type of stuff only feels warm when it is very cold. That is because they often use thermistors or whatever to regulate the temperature, so ambient temperature has no real effect and therefore feels hot when cold outside, but like not working at all when it's more warm.
I remember a guy in the Triumph Trophy SE Forum who thought his heated seat didn't work. The real problem was he lived in San Jose. Those in cold areas claim it's too warm and vice versa. The truth is it stays at the same temperature regardless of ambient temperature. So it will NOT work at all when ambient temperature is higher than the regulated temperature.
So could this be your "problem"? If so, it means they are working perfectly as is.
IOW, on a cold day in December, get a real test on how well they work.
