An anniversary I wish I didn't have
« on: June 21, 2019, 07:50:15 PM »

One year ago today I woke up in Nassau University Medical Center's orthopedic wing with a tibial plateau fracture in my left leg that I received the previous night.  Some JACKASS more intent in pulling into an open gas station was completely oblivious to the fact that I was there on my BRIGHT YELLOW MOTORCYCLE, wearing a dayglo yellow helmet and covered in retroreflective materials was crossing the driveway at just that instant.

The insurance company declared my 2016 Zero S to be a total loss, and I missed an entire summer of riding while my leg healed up.  Technically I can have the metal in my leg removed any time after Sunday since it will have been one year since it was inserted but since I already lost an entire summer I'm going to wait till the end of September to have it removed.  I have a mild nickel allergy and they used surgical steel instead of titanium.  When they asked me if I had any allergies I completely forgot about the nickel allergy!  Fortunately it's only a mild reaction (more annoying than anything else).

I remember that, you got hit by the gas station guy, yeah.  Glad to hear you are, or soon will be, 100%.

I was also run over by a drunk trying to get gas. As if it wasnt bad enough they were getting gas, they were wasted on top of it. They stopped with the front tire on my front end, looked at me laying on the ground, then decided to finish running me over with the rear wheel and go get gas without saying anything. I approached the guy, he said, "Your bike looks fine bro. Were good." I decided rather smartly to step away and call the police. He was promptly arrested.

Yesterday was also the one year anniversary of getting this internal "leg jewelry" (it took three days for the swelling to go down sufficiently for the surgeons to operate):

I had very similar metalwork in for about 5 years - in my case a wakeboarding injury when I came to a disagreement with a rail I was trying to slide along. It's been much better since I had the plate out.

Some time this month is my 40th year anaversery of a driver pulling out from a stoped signed sidestreet  into my right of way.
I had a pin inserted into my left femur that stayed in for over a year.

Wanna compare scar's? :P
