That's a very, very impressive offering! That amount of torque on two wheels is sheer insanity. And being able to get a 20kWh battery on a motorcycle, with level 1, 2 AND 3 charging, for under $20,000? Color me gobsmacked.

If they've figured out a way to actually sell these bikes, and provide service for them, a lot of Zero riders may very seriously consider jumping ship. Including me.

Doesn't seem like this post should be in the Zero area, though.

Only drawback for me is that it's a pure sport bike. Beautiful bike though. Would be nice if I was 30 years younger.
I think the specs are a little off. Bike only gains 10 pounds with the extra 5kwh battery.

And to NO surprise at all, you don't get much with the base price that was in the initial announcement.  You DON'T get the 150 mile top speed with the base model, and you DON'T get the 150 mile range with it either.  Also, it only comes with L1 and 3.3kWh L2.  You want 6kWh L2, you pay more.  You want DCFC?  You pay more.

I was right... they're following the BMW model:  Announce a price that sounds too good to be true only to find out it is.

Rest of forum is minuscule, most of us like the strike, of course it should go here.

The mid model has additional weight reduction plus the extra battery.

I would like one. A problem with this bike is it would be expensive to crash, a further problem is despite the ultra-mean looks you can't even win a roll race against a 600 although I'm sure it would eat most riders off the line.

I'll start getting excited once the bike actually lands on showrooms, in owners hands and a few people have reliable reviews of a bike that works without trouble over decent mileage and time. I know Zero has spent lots of time learning from mistakes over the years to come up with the reasonably reliable bikes they now sell, and I think Lightning will go through the same. As far as we know, Lightning hasn't sold a single bike. I'm not expecting this bike to be all what it's hyped up to be once it lands in owner's hands.. especially at that price... but I guess we'll see.

This is how I feel too. I am impressed by their specs, but i wouldn't be willing to roll the dice on them over Zero at this moment when they don't seem to have any real mass production expeirence. I they actually start selling them and i hear from owners and there is a way to get them serviced, then it would become really compelling to me.

Just to add my 2 cents.  It does look nice.
But I wish that a comfortable commuter bike would be considered by all manufacturers. (says the guy with an SR/F on order)

The top-line model is actually still a great deal, relatively speaking. Compare with the Zero SR/F. For $20k, you're getting 20 kWh battery, DC fast charging and 6.6 kW Level 2 charging. That's super impressive spec, before factoring in the carbon bling, etc. On paper, it's a winner. Hope they pull it off in reality.

A riser clip on/ handle bar and a top box rack option would be awesome for utilitarian/ sport touring motorcycling.

I imagine handlebars will be standard 7/8" 22mm like most metric bikes and all the usual aftermarket things will fit with a little ingenuity.

The one issue hard to overcome is the Chinese manufacture of Lightning components, apparently to be assembled here in the USA. As of 4/22 @10:45am, I'm leaning towards a Zero (possibly an SR/F), but don't know how much if any Zero parts are also Chinese. Whenever buying, I always look for domestic equivalents, and will pay a premium to keep the $$$ on this side.

Thanks for a great Forum; glad to finally become  member!

Cheers,
