I thought we all knew that batteries in EVs usually cost around half the price of the vehicle for a reasonable range on a charge.  If the batteries can be made cheap someday, EVs will cost less than ICE because EVs have so little stuff in them. No tranny, no clutch, not even an alternator, etc. Evs are mainly just battery, motor and a bunch of electronic stuff.

There is a difference between the battery and the cells.  There is a post somewhere in the freeride section about the wholesale cost of the 360 18650 cells in the battery and it is less than 10% if I recall.  I can go on ebay and see what I can buy cells for.

As primarily an off road rider I want the manufacturer to spend a thousand on the front and a thousand on the rear suspention components.

Right around the minute 5 the word manpower comes up.  Pre bankruptcy the most expensive thing in a car was the cost of medical "insurance" for the employees coming in at around $1300 per vehicle more than the engine.  That was then.  Not meaning to make it political but how stuff like that is put into their bar graph of the cost should not be ignored.

Heheh, I don't know if the cheapest 18650 cells on ebay are anything a reputable person would put into a warrantied vehicle.

But yes, this is what Tesla is about, they are driving up the volume so the economies of scale can kick in, and batteries can be cheap, and EVs can become available to everyone.  Accelerating the transition to renewable energy.

Minute 3:44 $111 per kwh.  It doesn't say ueable or max. Doesn't that come in ballpark 10% out the door Zero motorcycle price?

There is a difference between the battery and the cells.
The term battery means more than one cell. However, the 1.5V cell has been called a battery for a very long time.

If you're saying the cost of the completed batteries should be 10%, well there is a lot more to it than just a bunch of cells to make an EV battery.

Just for the record, Tesla hasn't used the 18650 battery for the last couple of years. Search "2170 battery".

not true either.

Tesla now uses the 2170 for the model 3 and will be for the model Y.
the S and X are still using the 18650 and they are still in production.

my prediction for the roadstar 2 will be 2170 with maxwell tech.

Oops, I'm not as well informed as I thought I was. Thanks for the update.

They're definitely heading that direction, though. I'd be pretty certain the 18650s are for legacy product only.
