Hey guys!

I purchased my 2015 Zero S used (with 1k miles) in September 2018 and I love it to death. I'm a battery nerd, engineer, EV fanatic and couldn't believe I found one. Everything so far has been fantastic and I have put 2300 miles on it in the last few months (it is my daily driver).

Yesterday I left work and turned the key, got on, kicked up the kickstand and rolled on the throttle to get out of the parking lot. The bike stuttered (almost felt like there was ice or sand under the rear and I was getting poor traction). I let up and tried again and it was flawless the whole way home (about 15 miles). When I left for work this morning it did the exact same thing, but a little more severe. I stopped and the green "go" light was flashing. Once it turned solid I tried again and it was flawless again, all the way to work. In neither instance was I moving more than 1 or 2 miles per hour, it just wouldn't go.

My immediate thought was ABS initialization throwing something off, but I have no proof of that. I am going to continue to monitor it and record when it stutters, but I was just curious if anyone had run into this before or something similar? I live in Phoenix and the weather in both cases has been about 55-65 degrees. I've ridden it in much colder temps so I don't think it's dependent on that.

I wouldn't expect ABS to affect the throttle interlocks since ABS needs the bike to roll to initialize. Did you cycle the cutoff switch when the "go" light was flashing? The easiest repair would be if you have a failing cutoff switch or kickstand switch that is somehow now exacerbated by the cold temperature. Before leaving work today, you might check the battery temperature with the app before the throttle is armed. I imagine you'll also be looking at the "go" light to see when in your startup sequence it starts to flash. If your battery temperature is low, one remedy would be to charge just before you ride.

Funny you should mention kicking the kickstand....my 2014 SR has occasional issues with the "kickstand down" switch, which can result in either the bike not moving at all, or sometimes a stutter just as I get moving. I can tell because the red and green indicators on the dash flicker back and forth. I just give the kickstand a swift boot with my heel and it seems to fix the problem.

It's been happening for years, and I've been booting it the whole time. Doesn't seem to get worse or better, though it does seem to happen most when the weather's changing -- in fall as things get colder, or in spring as things warm up. I'll probably just keep booting it until it deteriorates or I get rid of the bike.

Thanks, I'll be sure to check those out and let you know. I don't believe it's a battery temperature issue since the bike stays in the garage and our lowest low this year has been ~33 which still keeps over 50 degrees in the garage. I did not cycle the cutoff switch, I have actually never used the cutoff switch, always just the kickstand switch. I'll give the kickstand switch a little tap too for good measure, although the red light never came on, just the green one started flashing. I'm going to leave the error code display on too just for good measure.

The bike made it home tonight, and I decided to take some videos to share. In the process of taking the videos I think the bike took its last breath as it will no longer charge and is incredibly hard to get rolling. Error codes 25, 48, and 49 pop up constantly and I can't even get the bike to turn on to grab the logs. I'm so sad about it and it is my only mode of transportation so I'm going to have to start taking Uber to work until it's fixed I suppose .

I think your onboard charger may have failed.  You will probably have a lot more luck discussing your problem and replacing the charger with the help of a franchised dealer than contacting Zero directly.  If the charger has failed, you can pay to have it replaced, go for an aftermarket solution like Diginow, or charge your bike with an accessory off-bike charger that you would have to leave at home or haul around with you when you ride your bike.

I truly hope Zero treats you a lot better than they treated me. My Zero only has 5,000 miles and it suddenly decided to lose power at 35 MPH. It's no longer safe to ride in traffic any more, and when I contacted Zero, they told me they don't support their motorcycles or the faulty parts.
 That's when I stopped being an ambassador for those clowns.
