This guy added keyless fob to his Zero S. He even went further so that the luggage compartment remains unlocked whenever he's near.

I did buy the parts he uses when I first saw this video a couple of years ago, but I haven't installed them. Not that I've been lazy about accessorizing, just haven't gotten to this one yet.

Friends, this is a motorcycle for pete sake.  If you want a key fob for remote lock, unlocked, starting, alarm etc., then go buy a car.

Lane splitting would be messier with a car, increase insurance premiums, and maybe result in a suspended license.

Do you really need the battery bank when you can just simply tap into the top of the fuse box for a constant 12V power source?  I wouldn't think so and it will save you $50.

Oops.......now that I think about it, maybe the power going to the fuse box is all switched on with the key.  But since the bike a mostly a big battery there must be another way to get an always on power source.

What do you think happens when you turn on the key???

It connects an input wire to an output wire. The output wire goes to the MBB (bike computer). It powers up and connects 116V from the main battery to the DC to DC converter enable pin. The DC to DC converter then starts up and you have 12V power.

Is the input wire to the key 12V or 116V or is it just joining two wires that come from the MBB to make a circuit that the MBB detects and it starts up???

I would expect it's not 116V as it's not in an orange sheath for high voltage.
If it's 12V then there is your always on power, but if it's just making a curcuit (with very small voltage/current through it) could it be used to drive another chip that makes the circuit???

Okay I found this video that I remembered seeing before about an always on power source on the Zero, but it's more work and risk than I'm willing to undertake.

Now you guys have piqued my curiosity with the remote push button stater.  Does anyone have a link to the fob and receiver kit from Amazon that the guy in the video used?  I didn't see one that looked like his when I did my search.  Found this one on Amazon though.  Does it do the same thing?

I think this is the one; at least it's the one I ordered: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0096DLZLK/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

This is the battery: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016BJCRUO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05__o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Fred> I make sure I'll never lose my fob by implanting it in my left hand. Very useful for doors and unlocking my PC. I've not got round to rigging it up so that it works with my Zero yet though.

Will you do just the ignition unlock (fairly easy) or also the steering lock (more involved), Fred?

If you come up with a mechanical lock design, I'd definitely be interested in seeing it.  I'm not ready to do an implanted nfc yet, but a phone proximity unlock would be cool.
If I do it, then it'll be steering lock too. I can't see the point otherwise. I agree it'll be tricky though. I probably need a spare top triple clamp and lock to work from.

It boggles my mind that guys on an electric motorcycle forum are saying they prefer a key over a keyless system.  Having used a keyless system for a year now, I wish all of my bikes had one.  It is just so much more convenient for me, especially in the winter time with bulky gloves and bulky clothing.  I probably haven't even seen my FOB in a couple of months now.  I put on my gear and ride off.  I hope the SR/F has a keyless system of some kind.  I wish my new Honda Monkey did.

I also think the security risks are way overblown.  I doubt the difference in security is more than negligible and I have insurance which doesn't seem to cost more with the FOB.

As for the guys saying "Come on guys, this is a motorcycle.....we don't need that."   I think that kind of thing has been said at just about every single innovation made to motorcycles starting from when the first piston was fitted to a bicycle.  We don't "need" a lot of things but many are sure nice to have.  Not that long ago it seemed that most people on motorcycles wanted nothing to do with ABS (..."my hand is all the ABS I need...blah blah blah").  Personally, I'm thrilled that some of the best bikes out there now come with cornering ABS and traction control (and that I can turn them off when I want).

I think you can always turn off traction control on any car or bike.

But on many, you're stuck with ABS. Such as on my Triumph Trophy SE.

But it is very simple to remove ABS in most cases. Such as, on a Zero,  unplug either wheel sensor or better yet, put a switch in series  with the sensor so you can activate and dis-activate  any time you wanna, which is easier than Zero's procedure to disable ABS.

4 more days.. the wait is killing me  :-X :-X :-X

3 days and there is no news of any kind, no excitement, no unveiling events announced, no press releases since October, nothing posted on dealer websites, no excitement on Google or Facebonk. I was anxious to go out and watch it happen on Monday. Will dealers have anything to show? Very disappointed already. Are they about to miss the schedule, or merely preannounce to some press people? Fizzle. :(

So I am one of us who is chewing at the bit for any information also.  I never wish a weekend goes fast but I may do it this time.  I read somewhere that the dealers will be meeting today. i am guessing they will get the first reveal.  Not sure how tight lipped they are but I would hope some info leaks.  I will guess no press will do anything until Monday being we are so close to all the facts.  There are a lot of things I am hoping this bike is.  I know it won't meet all my hopes but if it meets most, this may be my first electric motorcycle.  Saying that, here is some things I hope the bike isn't.

Over $22K.  And that is total (not starting at or base model).  I can see it being around $20 being they would have to make it more expensive then the 2019 SR or why even have the SR.  If it is over $22K, then it is a non starter in my book.  It is getting too expensive and then I will have to chose if I will get a 2019 model or skip the electric bike all together until the prices become comparable with the ICE bikes.

Announced Monday released at the the end of the riding season.  I mean come on Harley, how can you announce a bike and take pre-orders in January to ships in August.  I never heard something so stupid (well maybe $39K for your first electric bike comes close).  If Zero announces it, they should have models ready to ship.  They should get demos into the dealerships before the spring.  If I waited this long to find out they are just gearing up for production, I may jump ship.

Lastly and it is not a decision killer but a strong consideration, they change the on-board charging system.  If reading on here is any indication of the poor quality of the on-board charger, I can't believe they didn't change brands already.  I read something like a possible 40% failure rate.  I mean this bike is battery, engine and charger.  If they really screw up one of these, it doesn't bode well for the company.

I hope Monday is worth the wait.
