Cold / Winter "long term" storage question
« on: December 09, 2018, 09:03:50 PM »

Just bought a 2015 SR 12.5 last week.  It is parked in my unheated but attached garage.  It's cold, but not frigid.  Battery is about 90%, but it's also 30 degrees outside.  Instructions read:

> For long term storage (>30 days) of your motorcycle, you should reduce its state of charge to
> ~60% state of charge prior to storing it.

Short of taking it out and riding it, is there any way to discharge the battery?  Turn on the ignition and let the light drain it overnight?  Car thermotmetr usually reads 45-50 when I start up, that about what the room will get to.

Thoughts?

Only if you want a melted headlight.
Either layer up and ride if there is no salt on the road or wait for a warmer day.
Don't stress too much about the 60% SOC if you can drain it a bit more your ok.
About a 20 mile interstate ride should drop it where you want it.

Hello,

Even 90% SOC isn't that terrible for your battery. Think that during many years the official instruction was "keep it plugged all the time". Which means 100%!
