3000Watt 48V Motor
« on: August 15, 2018, 10:55:09 AM »

Hello,
I am new to EV and found a good deal on this motor:
https://www.goldenmotor.ca/products/48-Volt-3KW-BLDC-Motor-Liquid-cooled.html
and this controller:
https://www.goldenmotor.ca/products/VECTOR-200-Series-48-Volt-Brushless-Motor-Controller.html
With the right battery, would this provide enough power to convert a gas powered motorcycle? From what I'm seeing it looks like it might be a bit underpowered. I know there are lots of variables but just looking for some advice from those that have done projects. Could I get away with it in a lighter bike or is it even worth investing time with this combo in a bike frame?

My son-in-law had a 3000W hub motor setup on a bicycle. It was good for about 45 mph but the bicycle's brakes were not quite up to the task.  :o  And when his NiCad batteries (that were hanging all over the bike) faded, pedaling the thing just about gave him a heart attack.  Anyway, my comment would be that you would really have to gear that motor down for it to move a typical IC motorcycle down the road so that it could carry both you and also climb a hilly street. I  bet you would be limited to about 25 mph with a motorcycle chassis. But I am just guessing so I will let the more experienced members of this forum provide more informative comments.

1 horsepower = 750 watts, so your 3000W motor is only good for 4 hp. For putting around a town without hills, maybe. Not going to work for anything else.
