Not bad, but the 2015 overall winner was an electric vehicle, and IIRC it was rated for over a megawatt of output -- twice the horsepower of this VW. Quite a beast.

Does anybody else recall the details of that vehicle?

Well, that is a bit over the top.  I would think it would be difficult for an IC car to match that power.  If they haven't done so yet, I bet the race organizers make a separate category for electric-drive racers.
