Playing with my XU MBB
« on: February 19, 2018, 06:40:25 AM »

My 2012 XU decided to stop doing regen again this winter, so faced with a long wet weekend I got an OBD2 connector and hooked it up to a USB-serial adaptor using the info from http://electricmotorcycleforum.com/boards/index.php?topic=4296.0
Menus and info looked just like Doctorbass' screenshots from http://electricmotorcycleforum.com/boards/index.php?topic=3057.0

I don't want to fill this post with screenshots, but here's where I've gotten so far.
After the regen stopped working:
* The bike wouldn't run until I toggled the stop switch or the side stand switch.
* The fuel gauge started showing all bars at all times.
* The BMS lights (in the back) showed the correct battery level.
* Resetting the BMS using the 2 buttons by the round connector didn't change things.

What I learned from messing with the MBB:
* The pack is happy and balanced
* The BMS says "Pack Percent Remaining : 70%" but also "Fuel Gauge : 100%"
* Running "test fuelout" should have set the gauge to 20% and 80% but it just kept showing all bars instead.
* On powerup it says "DEBUG: Sevcon EMCY message received. sid= 0x081 error_code= 0x4884"
* I set "sevnoregfull" (Prevent Regen When Full) to 0 but it still won't regen.

Not sure what to do next, but for all that I talk to my Zero, I'm glad it got to talk back for once. :)

Hm, don't know why I didn't stumble across this message from Apr 2016:

The fix is apparently to have my MBB reflashed, and my local Zero dealer just gave it up.  Dang.
Wonder if clearing the EEPROM would do something...?

Hi, that error seems to be:
4884 - Sequence Fault - Any drive switch active at power up.
Check your switches? Temporarily disconnect your regen lever too.

With the MBB, have you physically inspected it? Maybe the connections are corroded.
Good luck.

Thanks, @David_Walsh. Not sure what a regen lever is, but I can check brake switches at least.  And brake lights work fine.
The MBB is potted and sealed, I unplugged the two connectors and checked, they looked OK.

Ah, yeah - you can forget about the Regen lever - my mistake.
Hmm, I know about the sensors used in the motors in our bikes, but clueless really with the MBB  :o

Maybe someone will chime in with some suggestions for you.

Cheers, Dave.

A followup:
Well, don't know why it took me so long, but I just did a "format eeprom" and it fixed things!
The fuel gauge started showing the correct battery level, and regen started working.

So for a bonus, I thought I'd try playing with regen settings.
"sevregspeco 1" didn't change anything about sport/eco acceleration or regen that I could tell.  So I set it back to 0.
But setting the Sport regen settings (sev01 - sev06) to the same values as Eco (sev07 - sev12) gave me Eco regen with Sport acceleration.
Winning!
So now I have:
  sev01           - Sevcon Neutral Brake Sport  :   20%
  sev02           - Sevcon NB Ramp Up Sport     :  150%/s
  sev03           - Sevcon NB Ramp Down Sport   :  500%/s
  sev04           - Sevcon Foot Brake Sport     :   30%
  sev05           - Sevcon FB Ramp Up Sport     :  500%/s
  sev06           - Sevcon FB Ramp Down Sport   :  500%/s

Nice. I'll try to incorporate this to the unofficial wiki manual.
