Silly Season Begins
« on: September 02, 2017, 10:16:28 AM »

I've found a '17 DS demo with charge tank. I think I could be very happy with that bike, but...
Zero historically releases their next model year bikes in Oct. If I get the '17 I'm locked into it for 3-4 years. Before I make the jump, I'd love to know what upgrades are coming for '18 that I'd be passing up. What are the rumors of what's coming? I don't mean wish list items (40kw battery and 250hp motor) but what can reasonably expected.

There doesn't seem to be much info that leaks before Zero announce things officially. Rumours and wish lists maybe, but nothing reliable. Probably best to wait until the official announcement. You might even be able to haggle the 2017 price down a bit then too.

I started a thread recently asking the same question, I flip-flopped and flaked numerous times, so, here I am still waiting on info on the 18's, to complicate things even further, Alta has a few models that are attractive as well.  What I did do for the short term was to buy a new Honda Africa Twin DCT, nice bike but still have to add an electric.  I waited til Sept 1st in hopes of some strong rebates to push me over the edge but so far, I'm not seeing anything.

If there is any information or leaks floating around regarding the 2018 Zero line, I sure haven't heard about it.  I wish our government could keep secrets as well as Zero.  ::)  My solution is to save up money each year by not buying a new Zero and then, when enough money has been saved, just wait until the new models are announced, put down a deposit for a new one and hope for the best.  ;)  Sometimes you just have to close your eyes and jump into the pool.  ;D

But what about the 2020's? :)   Yep it's an old problem but shouldn't have to wait too much longer.
A good dealer should drop the prices pretty soon but some don't, I think you can still buy a "new" 2012 S in WI.
Zero has made improvements each year but not so big as to make the earlier year model useless.

I'm looking at the FX that had some updates this year so I'd be surprised if there are any changes, I do have a few bikes to ride in the meantime so it makes it an easier wait for me, if I were bikeless, it'd be agony...

The 2 things that would make me regret buying the '17 DS is if the '18 came with
1) a Diginow supercharger or other 3kw+ level 2 charger in place of the current 1.3kw charger.
2) battery capacity increase to 18-20kw.
3) on the far side of the wishlist is a level 3 DC fast charge option.

Then I can safely say:  Feel free to buy the 2017 DS.

If you wait, the deal on the 17' demo might be gone. That's what I'd worry about

Maybe the '18 will have contactless charging? You just drive up to a charging pad and it just starts charging. Or maybe 0-60 in 1.5 sec? ;)
