My
documented 250mi day on the Zero was aided greatly by a drop in elevation, some less-slow Elcon 2500 charging when I got to the destination, and then loitering in a Tesla sales location for 6 hours snickers charge on the return trip.
The trip to the Stinson Beach group ride and then staying overnight in SF Bay was probably just short of that at maybe 230mi or 240mi, for which I'd headed out from Tahoe around 1am and was restricted to RV parks 50Amp plug for 4kW charging rate as my J1772 kit was not engaging stations to provide power.
It is possible that my first 200mi+ long ride began naked and drunk in a desert hot springs back in July of 2016 without any fast charging capability at all. Later in the night I was pulled over by a cop and given a warning that my running lights were not functioning; the wires had gone crossed from stress on the 13mi of unimproved loose gravel road the night before.
Some of the trouble for doing a 250mi+ day is that you're going to want to get some rest at the destination. What the hell is so interesting more than 200mi away and you can get some rest at the end of it?
Also, notably there was that guy Shelby who showed up from Carson City NV to the Rumble Fish and Zero HQ group ride on a 2017 DSR + PowerTank without any fast charging... the very sort of disregard for proper planning that I really admire!
