Rear swingarm stand for 16 SR rec request
« on: January 27, 2017, 01:49:34 AM »

Hola!

After reviewing some of the older threads, it appears that pitbull rear stands work with Zeros. Can anybody confirm that this one is the best model to get?

http://www.pit-bull.com/product/F0028-000.html

https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/pit-bull-ss-rear-stand#skus_tab

My concern is the rear brake line runs just above the right side swing arm and I wanna make sure there is enough clearance to easily line up the flat part of the swingarm with the stand (when solo) and not running risk of pinching the brake line.

Thanks for any input and recs!

I use a cheapo, $30 Harbor Freight stand for my S model and never had any issues.  I don't THINK there is that much difference between the S and the SR in this regard.

I've got that same stand but never had a chance (or need yet) to test it on SR. I might try it during weekend and post some pics.

I use this one on a 2014 S and a 2017 SR.  It's a little cheaper because it doesn't have the removable handle and doesn't have the spool option, just the rubber pads.

Funny, I called my local harbor freight this morning to see if they had any, and was about to head down there to get the $30 model you mentioned. Then figured, "maybe something like this, I should at least give 5 minutes of internet research"... Found a ton of folks complaining theirs failed due to crappy welding. Like, failed on day one or day two type complaints bc of weld quality. That's when I came here and searched to see if anybody had discussed stands for their zero's... and that's how I came across the pitbull thread(s).

Tough to swallow $150 for a stand, but I couldn't imagine the swirling fog of chaos and bad intention my brain housing group would be in if I put my $17K SR onto a $30 stand that failed and dropped the bike.

Glad to hear both of you are getting solid results from yours.

Awesome! Glad to hear it works without messing with the brake line. Thanks for sharing the photo. I'm going to grab the spool dual-purpose one so I can also use it on my other bikes.

My local Zero dealer uses the dual purpose one and it also works great for the Zero and the other bikes they work on as well.  It should work great for you. 😀

This one is probably the best bang for the buck.

I have the other one but I'm running spools.

This one jacks up whole bike. Works great for FX/FXS that have a flat bottom. Not sure what's under the other models though.

I added a couple of the recommendations to the wiki and linked here: http://zeromanual.com/index.php/Unofficial_Service_Manual#Lift

I use a rear stand for my V-Strom that does not quite grab the Zero rear swingarm as well as I'd like, so I've dragged my feet on finding a new one. But I have a ratcheting center lift which works fine when I occasionally need one.

Thanks for this thread.

I am planning on using a lift under the bottom charger cradle, since I think I read on zeromanual.com that it supports the bike.

Can you guys confirm that?

I have a 2017 DSR 419 lbs with 100% full tank  ;D

I lifted it partially up for my SAG base measurement, front and back independently with a little car jack, but would like to lift it front and back up completely.

Ha, I have that MSR pro lift stand that works great with my Honda and Triumph, but is a bit too tall (I believe the lowest setting available is 9.5", which is still a couple inches too tall) for my SR. The SR sits frickin low to the ground. It's about 7" or so off the ground. That's why I'm looking for a rear stand. I LOVE that MSR lift. Really wished it would work with my SR.

Hey Brian, just saw what you linked (MSR pro lift stand) in the wiki... I can confirm it will not work with an SR (and S for that matter). Even on it's lowest to the ground setting (9.5"), it is still a couple inches too high off the ground to get under the center of the bike. Ironically, that is what was the impetus for starting this thread earlier today when I asked about rear stands.

I bought the $30 stand after another member of my club recommended it.  He's had his for years, and has had more motorcycles in that time than anybody I know (I think he replaces the bike rather than get the oil changed but I could be mistaken).  In any event he's used the same stand on all of his bikes without issue.

It won't work on either of my two BMWs due to their single-sided swingarms, but then I don't HAVE to because they both came equipped with center stands.  I bought the track stand for the Zero to make belt adjustments easier.

If anyone has a Cycle Gear near them, it might be worth checking out.
Every time I walk in, they have lots of stuff on "sale". Haven't had many
problems and any that I have had were handled quickly and easily.
Here is a link to their stand page.

@Say10 Can you explain / make a how-to for tapping spools on the Zero frame, if that's what you've done?

Anyone else tapped the Zero frame for spools?  Would love to know what location is best and how it worked out for you...
