The charger on my daughter's early-build 2012 Zero S is still charging away and it has been plugged in continuously since the bike was manufactured (other than when being ridden). I am sure it has a lot more than 400 cycles on it - probably more like 1000. So it would appear to me that the problem is with the component and not with the design.  Something about the charger changed between 2012 and 2015/16. A different manufacturer, perhaps? ???

Yes, I think those had Mean Well until 2014.

Thanks! I've updated the wiki again for the QuiQ 1000 (after confirming on forum threads): http://zeromanual.com/index.php/Unofficial_Service_Manual#Charger

SF Moto replaced my BMS (took over 2 weeks).

They say it's still not fixed. Maybe a new charger? I've had the bike since May, and it's been in the shop for a month an a half total with less than 1000 miles on it.

Buyers remorse, over here.

Sorry to hear that.  From other posts it seems like SF moto is just a very busy dealer and have quite a backlog with limited space to work.  Many have posted that a charging error gets fixed in 2-3 days with Zero overnighting parts and the dealer working on it first thing in the morning.  So this seems like a dealer issue and not a Zero issue.  I would call SF moto each morning to see the progress to remind them that this is not just some bike you use for recreation a few times a year.  Other dealers like Hollywood Electrics could have this fixed by the end of the day.  It just depends on their skill and backlog of work.  Good luck getting back on the road soon!  Owning a Zero is definitely worth it.  Once you get the bike back any remorse you will forget you ever had.

One big problem that all motorcycle dealerships are having in the SF Bay Area is a lack of qualified technicians.  Every shop I go into has a sign asking for help in their service departments.  I think this is the result of our very expensive cost of living in this area and the fact that fewer and fewer young people are being trained as, or have an interest in, motorcycle mechanics - much less also having the necessary education and understanding how to work on this new EV technology.

Also, motorcycle shops just can't pay enough to attract and retain qualified technical staff (no problem with sales people, though  ::) ) so that they can live in the Bay Area. This is a really big issue for motorcycle dealerships as their older technicians retire and/or move out of the area and I don't see a solution coming along any time soon.   :(

There may be a day when your bike gets picked up by a self-driving automated truck and transported to a central repair center to be fixed or serviced and then returned to you via robot driver.   ;)

In other maybe-related news: there is a company in Mountain View who is now making pizza pies using robots and even has a truck with 50 "smart" ovens that cook the pies on route so that they finish cooking just as the delivery truck arrives at your doorstep. There goes the need for experienced pizza chefs.   :o

This combination of needlessly non-tech job-eliminating startups and a total lack of regional accommodation of tech job growth are shameful on the part of this entire region.

Picking up tomorrow. The BMS that Zero sent was apparently programmed for a monolith, and not the dual battery system the FX has. SF Moto reprogrammed the BMS and it's working now.

The irony haha!  I now have the exact same symptoms on my 2016 DSR!

I am currently stuck in O'Brien, OR on what has been an epic journey from Vancouver, Canada.  On a Saturday in an area where very little runs on the weekends.  I was heading to Hollywood Electrics.  Not good when the most important part of an EV doesn't work.  I have already contacted my dealer... Zero is next but they are closed😁

Monday will be fun.  So if anyone is passing through, I'm at the RV park.  Fun times.  If anyone has any suggestions or ideas I would appreciate it.   It was suggested to me to haul it to Zero direct and see if they can sort me out.  Don't know what else to do until Monday.

If only I had an awesome little special fast charger as a backup!😂

Spirits are high for now!  Just part of the adventure.  Don't want to think what this will cost me to transport😌

My SR stopped charging about two weeks ago so I called Contra Costa Powersports in Concord where I bought it. i made an appointment for one and a half weeks out but they didn't even look at the bike until the day after I brought it in which was Wednesday of last week. They never called me like they said they would to let me know status either, I had to call them. Now they're telling me it's a bad charger plus it's showing codes that Zero doesn't recognize. Sounds mighty fishy to me. They also claimed to be on the phone with Zero for "hours". They say they won't know anything until the middle part of next week which I don't understand. Zero's factory is only 80 miles from this dealer-I'm not getting a good feeling about this.

...claimed to be on the phone with Zero for "hours".
Translation:  Back-and-forth dozens of phone calls with Zero factory because Zero is very particular on how the dealer must go about diagnosing problems, and controlling the entire feedback loop of diagnosis with repair.

Yeah that sounds like bullshit to me!  Grrr ... Dealers.

Anyways dropped off my bike at the Factory.  Nice fellas!  Nice to see the younger generation making up most of the staff.  Still would have liked a tour after what I have been through.  Maybe on pickup.

I really hope Zero sorts out this charger reliability issue.

Lesson learned.  Always have a back up charger for longer trips!
