Bay Area people- regular monthly meetup! (20 August)
« on: July 17, 2016, 08:18:26 AM »

Today's get-together was a blast. Ten of us, counting Charger the Electric Dog.

How's monthly, third Saturday?  Palo Alto to Alice's worked out great, maybe add another meetup point for people coming from the ocean side?

-- update --

Next one will be 20 August.

People coming from bay side, meet at Palo Alto Baking Company, kickstands up at 10 AM.   I'll be there early to at one of the six free Chargepoints nearby.

People coming from ocean side, meet at Zero Motorcycles in Scotts Valley, kickstands up at 10 AM.

People coming from far away and needing a charge, charging is available at both meeting places, come early enough that you are fully charged by 10 AM.

Ten people and you gave less than 24 hours notice? That is impressive (and thanks for the text, sorry I couldn't make it). You have to take Page Mill Road up to Skyline if you haven't done that already, one of my favorite roads.

It was a great meetup! I'm definitely down to do this regularly.

Well, initially it was just Brian and Ben and myself, and then Ben said, let's make it an open invite.  We had one person confirm, so we thought it was going to be four of us, and then Aaron showed up, and so there were five of us out of Palo Alto.  Once we got to the top, we found Richard and __ (damn!)  so we got a table for seven.  All but one was a two-time Zero owner!  And then Terry and Aaron and Charger showed up, party complete, we squeezed them all in.  Every rider on a Zero, and nobody laughed at my yellow coroplast thing!  Aaron was tickled- he said it was Zero's first owner-initiated getogether.

So, yeah, I think Palo Alto on California near the chargers is a good place to meet for people going from Peninsula/SF/East Bay/SV.  Palo Alto Baking Company seems pretty central, has coffee and pastries, and is not too busy on a Saturday morning.  There are two city lots with free Chargepoint stations and Mollie Stone's as well.  (I did put in a correction to Plugshare- they list one at 400 Cambridge Ave., which is really more like 475 Cambridge if you are trying to find it on a map.  It has four chargers, and all were free when I arrived before 9AM)

And for people coming from the ocean side, Terry says Scotts Valley at the Zero Factory is fine.  Plugshare says the chargers there are private, but Terry says they are fine for Zero owners and employees to use.  Not sure this needs to exclude electric motorcyclers who don't own Zeros tho.  Not that I've actually met any in the area yet.

10 AM as a meeting time worked out fine, it got us to Alice's ahead of the lunch rush.

Next time, Manzanita, help me plan the route from Palo Alto to Alice's.  What we took was great, but I don't think it's exactly what you describe.  Or better yet, you can lead!  (I'm like totally new to group rides- I probably shouldn't be leading).

Page Mill Road is just a few blocks south of California, go west and it turns into a windy road after you cross under I-280. Go all the way up to Skyline and make a right. https://goo.gl/maps/HJE6YHeQETp   Or keep going straight over skyline and go down alpine road, then to La Honda and back up 84 to Alice's: https://goo.gl/maps/3Gv6mMmqjHF2

These are fairly tight roads with some surprising turns, definitely be careful!

I take that route every Sunday morning on one of my IC motorcycles.  Watch out for deer and bicyclists.  :o

August 20.  If you are on the f'book, join the group, ...

  https://www.facebook.com/groups/1593227270969926/

but I'll also announce here on EMF.

August 20, kickstands up at 10 AM, meeting places are Zero Motorcycles in Scott's Valley and Palo Alto Baking Company.  If you need to charge, go early, so you are charged and ready by 10 AM.  Don't count on charging at Alice's- charging is available but there may be contention for it.
