The charger, especially if it becomes more powerful, needs to be relocated on top or at the back of the battery or someplace other than immediately under it, and get active cooling (a fan). If Zero gets a decent sized fairing option, two chargers could be strapped on each side on the front of the bike with much better cooling than on the bottom.

And I think a taller "gas tank" with bigger storage would be good to have. There is too much wasted space there today.

The FX and FXS should have a small acceleration regression due to the taller gearing

But it has more torque so expect faster than 2016.

Just did the calcs (if I am correct) and there is 14% taller gearing with 11.5% more torque for the FX /FXS so yeah maybe you are correct, slower acceleration for 2017.
Maybe we will see some ppl put an 18 tooth pully on the front for 5:1 ration (2016 was 5.28)

Its puzzling why Zero would reduce the torque at the back wheel on the FX/FXS (2016 = 501.6 NM, 2017 = 477 NM).
If you could put an 19 tooth pulley on the front you would get 502 NM at the back wheel and 18 would give 530.
The SR has 706.5.

I run the chain kit on my 2016 FX and notice that the 12T front sprocket wears quickly. It makes more chain noise than I expected possibly due to the small radius. I don't see the numbers for the 2017 chain kit, but I doubt it is 10/45 as in half the belt tooth numbers like the 12/65 FX chain. They also raised the price of the chain kit a lot. I use an X-ring chain as I ride almost exclusively offroad.

I notice that the 2017 specs no longer include acceleration. The higher torques should give a faster 0-60mph time, but none are given, I wonder why.

The FX and FXS should have a small acceleration regression due to the taller gearing. Though really this is just shifting the peak powerband closer to highway speeds .. and SHOULD significantly raise the top speed and sustained top speed. Will be very curious to see if this is the case or if not, if it is an artificial limit?

The Zero S, DS, SR should be quicker than their 2016 counterparts.

Acceleration is hugely dependent upon rider weight. 3.3 seconds was a great marketing claim in 2014. No independent instrumented review was able to back those numbers up, possibly because they were using 200 pound riders instead of 100 pound riders. Also - most manufacturers don't claim 0-60 times. Zero may have decided that ship has sailed.

It also gives them an opportunity to "reset"; if they choose to report an acceleration claim in the future, they don't risk an immediate comparison against the previous year.

Or it may have just been left off their press releases. Who knows.

Were there independent instrumented reviews?  I saw a couple of reviews but in each case they were comparing apples to oranges.  Zero gave all the reviewers the SR with the power tank option installed so that they could get more range, but then the reviewers somehow expected to get 3.3 second 0-60 times when that time was only for the SR WITHOUT the extra weight of the power tank.

Yes. MCN and Cycle World have published instrumented tests of the various Zero and Brammo bikes.

Without looking it up, I seem to recall that Motorcycle Consumer News got their SR with PT to 60 mph in about 6.5 seconds.

How difficult is it to replace the from sprocket on an FX (with the chain kit)?

They reviewed the SR + PT. 0-60 was 4.58 seconds with a presumed 240 pound rider.

That's not a bad 0-60 time for a 240lb rider and a PT.

Different torque for 2017 DSR Models in US and Europe?
« Reply #432 on: November 12, 2016, 07:43:42 PM »

I just compared the torque information of the 2017 DSR model on the US and Europe (Germany) site.

For US the site claims "157 Nm" and a peak power of "70 hp (52 kW) @ 3,500 rpm"
For Europe the site claims just "146 Nm" and a peak power of "69 PS (52 kW) @ 3.850 U/min"

For the DS model there is no difference between US and Europe models in the data. Both have 110 Nm torque.  ???

Therefor i wonder if this is a mistake on the website or really another specification for the Europe models. I wonder what is the reason for this.

Any ideas?

Greetings

I guess next time I comment I should "look it up".   :-[

I have not done it, yet, but it isn't easy. Swing arm must be removed, bolt into motor shaft needs heat to remove, frame is in the way. Instructions for installing the chain kit are out there, replacing front sprocket is about the same.
