If the controller didn't change, and the motor didn't change, then a simple belt-and-pinion change with a firmware flash would make the bike faster with the added bonus of a stronger belt...

Have to say that I am disappointed with this year's upgrade. After test driving two electric motorcycles, I am interested in replacing my ICE bike with something like a Zero - but this model upgrade will not convince me to switch :(
Why is there no full fairing, no suspension/braking system upgrade, traction control, LED lights?
Will wait for another year - or maybe a typical major motorcycle brand (Honda, Yamaha) will enter this market soon? Or maybe Energetica or Alta will announce something that will tick my boxes.

Hey guppie70!  Sorry your disappointed friend.

Zero is still a small company.  They have a hand full of people in each department.  Want a full fairing... Make one.  Suspension and brakes are great.  Get the suspension adjusted and adapted by a specialist(should do this with any bike).  Swap out the pads and the brakes are great!  Traction control is going to drive the cost unreasonable up and takes development time.  Led lights push the price with little to no gain in range.  Like really, just do the math!

Waiting for a major manufacturer will take years and people like you didn't build a brand like Harley or the others.  I'm sorry that the experience alone didn't sell you on the bike but to each their own.

I love my 2016 DSR.  You couldn't pay me to ride any of the museum pieces on the road.  In my humble opinion, Zero has it refined to a degree that leaves others in the dust.  But someone needs to support these other start ups and that is important.  Safe travels.

Also IPM motor across the whole range now (including FX).

The S 6.5 has new belt (20/90) but the S 13 and 13+pt has old belt (28/130).
FX and FXS has 11% more torque and 5% more power.
FX and FXS also has new belt (20/90).

Its like they listened to our main gripes... and fixed them :)
Super excited about the wider belt, SR gearing, new controller, lockable storage and over the air updates.
Paint on the plastics is pretty big too.

excellent moves in the right direction.

I hope that the locking tank can be fitted to older 2013+ my bikes, I wonder if you can leave it unlocked and just have quick access with a latch

I wish they would upgrade the charger or charge tank, that's long overdue in my opinion and the thing that's kept me waiting to buy one. Maybe next year?

I agree with the fact that native j1772 charging at 3.3 kW minimum should be included, having people ask how long it takes to charge seems to be the biggest "not for me" moment

Hi ElectricZen!

For around 21k EUR (in Europe with Charge Tank option that I would need for commuting) it's just not a competitive offer. Even though I really liked the electric drivetrain. Am convinced that this is the future for motorcycles, but it's simply too expensive at this moment.
I understand that Zero needs to make choices, but if LED lights are so cheap - that is a really quick win then right? Reading the stories on this forum it seems that adding a proper fairing increases milage significantly. That also sounds like a low-tech quick win to me.
But I am probably over simplifying things and I agree that Zero deserves a lot of credit for what they are achieving.
Just have to wait some more then...

I am also somewhat disappointed in the 2017 :(
Was really hoping for a range improvement, but theres only a 5 mile range improvement with the power tank.

I was at least expecting new colors.. I want an S, but I hate that I'm going to be stuck with yellow... Do you think they will let me have an S with an SR color? I don't even want red either, but I'd much prefer it to yellow...

Why would they make a 6.5 S model? Yeah I know it's cheaper, but that range is pretty abysmal.

And they're trying to sell the 6.5s on the extra storage. Do they really think people wanted more storage over range? O.o
