Just don't think reverse is necessary on a bike as light as a Zero.  Rather any new development is geared towards aerodynamics which will give you the most "bang for the buck" in terms of range.  Current Zeros are about as aerodynamic as a cinder block.

A nice, lightweight sport-touring type fairing would be perfect.  It wouldn't even have to be completely filled in and full of "stuff" like on the current bikes on the market.  Just something to smooth the airflow around our legs and torso would be sufficient.

Reverse does make sense to me. I've lived for years in cities with steep hills, and also gone on gravel roads on hills, and reverse helps both situations.

Even just being able to back out of my downsloped driveway would make my daily life easier - I always perform a Y turn to back down into my driveway so I can easily get out in the morning, and I use low-speed regen and throttle to ease my way down. Being able to aim into the garage and then back out in the morning would be much more straightforward.

It's a reasonable option, just not for everybody's needs.

Reverse is tricky, the controller can do it at least but I chalk this up to development priorities. It would be a nice aftermarket option. I'm hoping to visit Harlan for the setup.

Everything about aerodynamics can be an option. Maybe it will be for a while.

Yes, yes, options please!
You could have a faring like a sports bike (where you tuck down) and a faring for commuting (where you sit upright) and backwards compatible to 2014.

+1 There must be a lot of folks out there now with 2014+ models. Giving them some decent aero would give them a new lease of life and feel like a decent upgrade.

Due to all my bike swapping last year, I'm under strict orders that I have to keep my 2014 DS for at least two years.  Almost nine months in and I'm still happy with that. My penalty for getting a 2017 model would be to write my brother-in-law's upcoming dissertation and suffer a very angry wife. An aero upgrade would circumvent that deal and give me a good boost to my range at speed. Nice! :-)

This. I live in San Francisco, and I know there are a bunch of Zeros (and Zero dealers) in the area. Reverse would make my life significantly better.

Reverse would make my life easier too. But I would put the aero dynamic faring top of the list.

I wonder how powerful a charger you could get to fit where the current on-board charger goes. Even 2.5kw/h charger would be a big improvement.

Not that I have heard.  The factory is very secretive about their new models until they are officially announced, which usually occurs at a major motorcycle show in Europe.  When I visited the factory last month, it was mentioned that Zero is already road testing the pre-production 2017 models and setting up their assembly line.  So I suspect that the 2017 models will be announced pretty soon, probably by the end of this month, and it is likely that shipping to dealers will commence in December, if not earlier - just in case someone needs a Christmas present.   ;)

They are definitely building the 2017 right now. I was at the factory this past Wednesday for a charger replacement on my 2014S and they said the couldn't give me a factory tour since they were building the 2017 model. There was brown paper taped up on some of the windows as well. The people I talked to were unsure of a release date.

A couple of pages back...
According to Zero, they announce all the specs for the 2017 models at the EICMA event in Milan Italy, November 10-13.

Last year Zero announced the 2016 lineup at AIMEXPO.  This year AIMEXPO starts 13 October.  The word on the street is that they will announce the 2017 lineup at EICMA in Milan Italy which starts on 8 November.

It seems unlikely that Zero would skip AIMEXPO which is in Florida to travel to Europe to make an announcement at the biggest motorcycle convention of the year just to say "check out the 2017 bikes which are mostly the same as last year but with a little more range!".  Not trying to set expectations too high...just sayin.

I predict the look of the bikes will be mostly unchanged (maybe a new color...@Killroy mentioned lockable storage tank) but there will be more improvements under the hood.

Oct 19 is when the USA dealers find out about the 2017s.

In 2012 and 2014 they used Intermot to show the next year's line up. I went to see them both times.
This year Zero are not at Intermot. I guess that show didn't have the right marketing effect.

It seems EICMA is still interesting enough though. Maybe also because EICMA is annual and Intermot is bi-annual.

Next year I will be able to go to EICMA and see the new Zero models again as I am moving to Milan in January '17 :)

Looks like I'll be in town for AIMExpo next Saturday so I think I'll take a look around.  Hope Zero is there with SOMETHING...
