Tesla Model 3
« on: April 01, 2016, 09:33:54 AM »

Did anybody else reserve a Tesla Model 3?

I went to a store and reserved one at noon EDT!

I went in this morning. About 100 people in front of me in line. By the time I reached the front of the line, probably 150 behind me.
According to the " Reveal ", there were 115,000 reservations placed prior to the opening of online reservations. It was quick, they
took your name, email address, and, credit card information. At the end, there was a quantity desired tab. The guy asked me if
I wanted ONE, or TWO. I ordered TWO.
I wasn't happy that orders were taken as the stores opened across the country, giving the earlier opening stores an advantage.
"Fair" would have been to begin taking orders at a specific time once all locations were open. I was informed ( not sure how valid the information is )
that even though the east coast got orders in first, that west coast would receive orders first because of shipping logistics. THIS
part makes it less fair to east coast buyers. Either way, I hope that Tesla makes good use of all the interest free loans they got ( and will be getting )
though this offering.

Or as it was pointed out to me, four wheels is better because it's two bikes! ;) Do keep us posted on any news you get on the Lit please Brian, it promises to be awesome!

I would love my next car to be electric. I came here first but my next stop will be Tesla's website!

I think Tesla has done a good job communicating about how they will deliver these cars (ie - WC first, then EC, then Europe, Asia, etc.).  Also, since the cars will be produced in far higher volumes (10x as quickly as the Model S), there is likely to be less of a time gap between people receiving their orders.

There is so much more for them to detail in the next year and a half, so I expect it all to work out in the end.  #InMuskWeTrust

I'm still debating getting a Model X. I already have the Zero, so I don't need a high-efficiency commuter. I could use something to haul stuff around. Granted, the X is very expensive, but I was also toying with renting it out on RelayRides.

It's kind of a nice quandry to have.

Reserved one. ~150 in line in Nashville. Only disappointment in what I've read so far is that it has a trunk instead of a hatch.

I wasn't happy that orders were taken as the stores opened across the country, giving the earlier opening stores an advantage.

I recall reading that reservations would be ordered according to time relative to store opening.

However, west coast will take deliveries first, then east coast, then ROW.

Edit: I'm not certain I'll keep the reservation, mostly due to limited need for any car, electric or otherwise. It would be nice to be able to rent until we can supercharge our bikes, at least.

Sadly the only vehicle I have a use for outside of my motorcycle is a 4wd SUV capable of housing my motorcycle lol aka my honda element. I would love it if some magic fairy dust could be sprinkled on my element making it an efficient electric vehicle .... but I am not holding my breath.

I put maybe 1-3k on my Element a year and most of the time it is hauling stuff around or going on long trips (which won't happen as much when I get the tank charger)

I heard that 133,000 deposits were made for the Model 3 as of this morning.  Too bad Zero didn't try some PR stunt to get electric motorcycles on the public news reports at the same time.  Someone needs to inform the public that there are electric motorcycles as well as electric cars on the market.

Yep, the Lit has the potentially to be incredible. Still not sure weather it or Skully will ship first.

A couple of guys from work headed down to the Melbourne (Australia) store at ~5am this morning. There was already a few people who had camped out, but one of them got #6. When that arrives we'll have the full suite of Tesla's in the parking lot at work. Time to start convincing people to pick up two wheel alternatives and restore the balance. I'm thinking at least one Lighting and an Energica...

Just did a Google search with last hour as filter. 232,000 reservations as of around 9:30 p.m.
No information yet on "options", but, Musk seems to feel that the "average" will be around $42,000.
Difficult to believe. I went to the site and configured a Model S. The Default is the 70D at $75,000.
You can set it to rear wheel drive and get it stripped for $70,000. They seem to have a couple NEW ones
ready for delivery for just over $72K. I went through and loaded one up just for grins. The price goes from
$70K base to close to $150K with every listed option. If similar percentage increases apply to the
Model 3, then, we will see $70,000 to $80,000 " affordable " Teslas. They also have 10 Pre Owned
2013 and 2014 85KW models for between $70K and $75K ( No government rebate ).

KrazyEd, you know the base price of a model 3 is $35,000, right?  I plan to get zero options since that is all I can afford (it's a bit of a stretch to begin with).

All of these Model 3 reservations kind of remind me of the rush of "pre-order" reservations when Brammo first introduced the Empulse (when it was to have direct-drive, a 10 kWh battery and was going to sell for around $10K). They supposedly accumulated well over one thousand orders within just a few months, almost all of which faded away when the promised production date faded away, too. I was one of those pre-order customers and hung on for a year until I discovered that it would be another year before the bike would be delivered and there would not be a direct-drive version, but only one with a six-speed gearbox.   ???  So off to Zero it was that had a bike ready to go.   ;)

So I wonder how many of those refundable deposit orders for the Model 3 will hang in there until the car is actually ready for delivery?  While Tesla may be able to deliver the first car near the end of 2017, how long will it take to deliver over 200K Model 3 units and will most of their customers have that much patience?  ???

Waited in line for three hours on Thursday morning to make my reservation! I'd prefer a station wagon.
