SHOWA suspension on 2015-16 Zero Motorcycles
« on: March 20, 2016, 12:33:08 AM »

Does anyone have any more specifics on the SHOWA suspension on the 2015/16 Zero Motorcycles?  Is the same or similar to SHOWA found on any other motorcycles?  Any details on the internals?  I know it's quality and clearly wholly superior to the Fast Ace from 2014 but wanting some more details.  Thanks.

i was wondering the same thing.

i took an '16 FX-S to my suspension guy and he assured me that the front was pretty standard, the rear he said was a little different but he felt confident that race tech would have everything we needed. springs, valves, shims, and seals. he also told me the 2" diff in the FX and FX-S was simply and internal spacer, hence you can buy an FX-S and convert the suspension to FX specs very easy.

my plan is to buy a '16 FX-S w/ a set of FX wheels so i can switch between the 2. we had been stumped by the rotor size diff but yesterday me and the dealer had a stroke of genius and realized all we need was a 320mm front rotor that fit the 4 bolt pattern of the FX wheels. yes, it's gonna be WAY more front brake than i need off-road but for the convenience, cost, and ease, it cant be beat.

the 2016 FX-S has a 320mm front disc. the problem when swapping wheels is relocating the caliper for the 240mm of the FX rotor. instead, i will just use the FX wheels and get a 4-bolt pattern 320mm (same as the FX-S) and eliminate having any issues with the caliper.

this is the rear but the front is the same.

None that I could find.

Also, the FXS front rotor is way different. Large 5 bolt pattern to fit mag wheel.

Does the zero fx rotor bolt pattern match the old honda 4 bolt pattern?

your not listening....

but you are correct by saying, there are no Zero bikes with a with a 4 bolt pattern, 320mm front rotor.

my problem was trying to fit the FX wheel onto an FX-S.

to do this you either need to do 1 of 2 things;

1) re-locate the caliper to the 240mm placement of the current FX wheel set up, OR  2) find a 4-bolt pattern, 320mm rotor that will fit the FX wheel and not require re-locating the caliper.

i will do the later. understand?

So do fx and fx-s have same rotor disc bolt pattern or are you getting custom 320 mm rotor made? There were rotor disc diagrams on the forum used to reduce remove brake squeal. These may be of help if you need to get custom disc made. They were improvements to stock.

wow, you guys gotta read.

no the FX and the FX-S DO NOT have the same bolt pattern, they are completely different wheels but that does not matter. i just need a front disc with a 4 bolt pattern that will fit the FX wheel, and it needs to be a 320mm so we don't have to mess with the caliper. i will not need to have one "custom" made as i'm sure there are plenty already in production. i just need to find one...

If you can't find one that fits, please let us know how much a custom rotor costs. I would like one too.

Here is the data I got from Zero.  I am looking into getting some softer springs as I can't even get 1/4" of sag from my suspension as I am not fat enough....  Sorry for the formatting as it was in a table and I am far too lazy to fix it.  Enjoy!

what is the measurement of the 4 bolt pattern of the fx?

You can cross ref off that to match any other dirtbike.
then when one matches, just order a 320mm supermoto rotor for that bike.

I am willing to bet it matches the older honda CR 4-bolt pattern...

wow, guess i need to read more. kinda ironic. hehehehe!  ;D

the numbers i have been looking for/waiting on, are listed on the Zero website. no measurement needed. ::)

front rotor for the standard FX wheel is a 240 x 4.5

so, we need to find a 320 x 4.5 and we are golden!

and wouldn't you know it, my boy's in orange come through again. the front rotor on the new KTM 1190 adventure is an exact match.  im sure there are plenty more as well but i just stopped looking at that point. i knew it could be done, which flavor you choose is up to you.

problems solved.

now i can start figuring out the fork travel difference and a way to quickly switch between the 178mm of the FX-S to the 218mm of the FX. that's the last piece of the puzzle. whoohoo!

almost.  you have to look at the rotors and see if they're dished the same... a street bike like the 1190 usually has the rotor dished outward. A dirtbike usually has no dish.
