Thanks for the gouge semper why --- former 0202 here (if you know what that all means)

Honestly, not a big fan of cerakote. Seen desert sand and haboobs trash it and wouldn't trust it on my bike. After doing more homework on wraps and sprays and whatnot yesterday, think i'm decided i'm just gonna keep the red on the SR and call it a day. Still looks sharp; I just would've preferred black on all surfaces. Not a deal breaker.

Douglass Motorcycles in San Bernardino said my bike is on its way today. Yut.

anybody have any suggestions for alternatives to film or paint (don't think any other sensible solutions exist but worth asking)? anybody know of a good shop in LA region for this?

If you are just looking to go black you can buy 2015 Zero S plastic in black through a dealer. I have been quoted about $250 total for everything with color... front fender, tank, top and bottom section for tail.

Yep, I blacked out my SR as soon as I got it. Hit it with a few coats of plastidip, but it's started to peel where my knees rub. Got some quotes on a spray / vinyl wrap then looked into black fairings straight from Zero - AU$379 for everything. They should arrive sometime in the next week or 2.

On a side note, if any of the Australian guys are in need of Red fairings, hit me up. I have the original 'frunk' and power tank fairing too.

So stoked I found out this was a possibility. Just ordered a set of black from my dealer for ≈$300USD including shipping (from Zero factory) + tax. Install a little more if I want. Do you plan to do it yourself? Assume it's just a matter of working through a bunch of bolts and connectors, taking a handful of components off and simply reinstalling with black (in lieu of red) in the same spots?

You've been chatting with my wife, haven't you? Ha!

So, no special tools, correct? Assuming a ratchet + socket set, maybe a couple wrenches? Nothing exotic?

Let's just say I'm familiar but not a member. And there was no gouging intended.

Fair enough. I would only mention that you're unlikely to see desert sand do its thing on your Zero.

In any case, it looks like you have a better solution in hand.

I got a sample of the purple retroreflective vinyl, decided I liked it well enough to buy a whole roll. I was going to wrap it myself but I chickened out and took it to a shop. He charged me $200 labor, plus $16/square foot for the carbon fiber vinyl. He did a crappy job but that's almost a good thing -- I'm convinced now that I can do at least as good a job, and even with the job he did, it looks pretty good. I don't recall exactly but I think a 15" x 30' roll of the retroreflective purple cost me around $150, and it only took maybe half the roll.

What brand and where did you buy the retroreflective vynyl from?  I'm interested in doing this, but am having difficulty finding retroreflective vinyl rolls.

This is where I got mine, though it seems the purple is no longer available. My bike will be even more unique now! Google "sign vinyl" or something like that if you want more sources -- I didn't find any intended for vehicles that were retroreflective. I think the vehicle stuff is easier to wrap odd shapes with, because the sign vinyl is thicker.

that's funny. Ya, so, "gouge" in Marine parlance is slang for "advice" or "information"... as in, "thanks for the gouge, man, it helped." No worries, we talk weirdly. You rocking 'Semper Why' had me assuming incorrectly.

ordered the black factory plastic... should be another week and a half or so.

Thanks!  Did you use the Vector, Avery or Nikkalite for the high-vis?

I used the Avery 1200. It was the only purple reflective vinyl I could find. Other (less unusual) colors are widely available by several manufacturers.

Perfect!  If you are happy with it, then I wanted to get the same material.

The price is $260 for Avery, and about $150 for Vector or Nikkalite.  But I only want to do this once, so if Avery is the best, then that's what I want.  Cheers!

I found the same wrap a little cheaper (30" and 5 yards, instead of 10 yards) at:
http://www.signoutletstore.com/product-p/p31-2.htm

Right now I'm looking into a couple of local artists to see if I can get some sweet art on my bike, but probably it will be too expensive and I'll opt for the wrap.
