I'm not sure if in future years they will be able to continue this tax credit.  We would hope so.  I think the low gas prices recently had a lot to do with the need to add more incentives for electric vehicles.  Not sure if they will see it the same way next year.  Regardless, if you were on the fence about getting a Zero, it seems like it is a great reason to do it this year!

Is this Msrp or actual price paid?  OTD price or unit price?
Would an untitled 2013 model still qualify?

I'm confused.  So if I bought mine earlier this year I will get a 10% tax credit when I file my return?

It was actual price paid, less state sales tax.  I got credit for the power tank, delivery and setup fees, rear rack, top box and windshield.   :)

Agreed.  As a EV incentive, I would relish "adjusting" gas and diesel excite tax from decades of inflation, so that fuel taxes functioned as user taxes as intended and paid almost entirely for the cost of building, maintaining and servicing the roads.  In other words, raise the gas tax during this time of historically low gas prices.

I filed an amendment to my 2014 taxes and recently received the refund check. It's based on actual purchase price, and I had to resubmit as they asked for proof of zero emissions certification. I used a printout of the emissions page from the manual, along with a copy of my sales order. Edit:repeated myself.

Good to know the amended works! I might do it for the $90 off my liquidation sale new Vectrix when I do this year's taxes... I wonder if I can add the $300 or so I spent traveling and trailering it home as "delivery" fee, which unlike the Zero delivery fee that may or may not be what it costs the dealer but we pay, is what I actually incurred towing the thing home from three states away...

Richard you may have found a glitch in the system!!  :)  But even so, an audit now wouldn't matter anyway because it passed.  I'm on the board of the Electric Auto Association and talk to Jay Friedland from Plug in America often and unless I bumped my head this morning, I'm pretty sure for the past 2 years there hasn't been a federal electric motorcycle tax credit.  But they were working on it, and got it!  So this is great news!  I haven't had the monthly board call yet, so this is the first I heard about it!!  Thanks ctrlburn!
Just to clarify, if you purchased your bike in 2014, do you still qualify for the credit? I'm seeing 2015 and 2016. And I know the credit expired in 2013, so I'm just really hoping the 2014 buyers didn't fall into some kind of EV credit donut hole.

As I said I purchased a bike in 2014 and successfully amended my 2014 return. They inspected it carefully as I had to refile with additional paperwork. The paperwork does not indicate any exclusion period.

What is meant by "tax credit"? You have to owe $2000 in taxes to get a credit of $2000 (effectively paying no tax) OR am I mistaken??

Who in the U.S. (except maybe Donald Trump and his friends) that can afford a Zero, doesn't pay at least $2000 in U.S. income taxes every year?   ::)

The $2,000 wouldn't be your income, but, amount owed after all deductions and credits. Probably somewhere in the neighborhood of $40,000 to $50,000 of gross income.
If you had Zero deductions, or write offs, the amount would be lower.

If anyone knows-  Thinking of buying a 2016 FXS. Bought a new 2014 also this year. Is the tax credit allowed on more than one purchase? The total for the two bikes would be about $20,000, so would $2000 be allowed on the two purchases?

So only purchases made in 2015 are eligible ? I purchased mine in 2014, just two months after the expiration of the previous tax credit. And looks like it won't be retroactive for the 2014 purchases.

I asked this upthread and apparently it is indeed retroactive, just have to file an amended return. If anyone has link to the actual wording in the bill, it'd be pretty straightforward to figure out.

Ok, so here's what I found. It looks like the 2014ers get fucked right in the ass. What am I missing?
