WTB Zero J1772 adapter
« on: October 25, 2015, 06:11:39 AM »

I'm the proud new owner of a 2015 Zero S, and I want to get a J1772 adapter so I can use level 2 charging stations near my workplace. (I realize it won't charge any faster; it's just harder to find available wall outlets.)

Does anyone have a used adapter they'd like to get rid of?

I made my own connector, it was pretty simple and you can customize it to your liking.  It cost about 100 bucks to buy the parts.  I made one with 5 C13 outputs from one J connector.  I can hook up multiple zeros with quick chargers or multiple quick chargers from one J plug.  It is simple to hook up, and the communication circuit for the J pug is easy to make it is 2 resistors, a switch, and a diode.  With some simple searching you can find all of the wiring diagrams online.  You can save yourself 200-300 bucks with about an hour worth of work.  Sorry it is not exactly what you wanted to hear but good luck.

Here's Zero's offering: http://www.zeromotorcycles.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=15_5&products_id=122&zenid=1j2ak24gdogmlhc290bdgncug7

As Electronpusher said, you can make your own, but I would recommend buying a production item not because it's a terribly difficult item to make, but just for warranty purposes.

I suspect that some owners may be parting with their existing level 2 charging setups as the Super Charger gets released in the next month. Of course, that'll be only to maybe a dozen early adopters at first, but those early adopters have chargers, naturally. :)

Me too.

I would want to buy a J1772 adapter with a plug standard 3-prong 120V connector and quick charger connector.

Ah. I find it difficult to get news on that front - is the big "Hypothetically charge under 1 hour" thread the main source, or is there somewhere else I can go?

Yes that's the main source. There is also a Facebook page for Diginow, but he usually updates both places at the same time.
