The cable is not needed for the Dongle, just a good password. I have level 3, and, am able to do some things. Not sure how high of a level the passwords go.
One of the things that you can change is gear ratio. You can also adjust the accuracy of the speedometer can be adjusted by  way of the dash controls. I did it
when I first changed my gearing on my FX, long before I got the Dongle. I haven't been able to find a way to change anything significant with the Dongle.
As far as I know, the cable needed for physical connection would be a modified OBDII cable. If I recall, there are a few pin differences between Zero and standard.
If you do find a way to make bigger changes, or, find a password higher than level 3, please let me know.
Thanks
Ed

Anyone know where I can get a cable and software for 2014, I've got a Hollywood dongle ,will a handheld programmer work   I need to change torque curve and gear ratios for staters

You need an IXXAT Can to Usb 1.5 or 1.6 with DVT to adjust any torque curves straight through the controller ... the ratios you can do with the dongle.

So the handheld programmer won't help?

Unless it is a handheld programmer for the controller likely not. And I wouldn't want to edit torque curves on one (you would have to email the person renting you the model to see what limitations it might have for this purpose)

https://www.thunderstruck-ev.com/sevcon-gen4-hand-held-calibrator.html

But given it only cost $50 for a week to rent why not rent it and find out what it can do for us ;)

For software:

http://www.heinzmann.com/en/download-electric-motors/documents-software
Then navigate the tree to "Motor Controllers", then "Software" then "Sevcon Software" and click on "Sevcon Install".

You will need to login with
Username : software
Password : perm-motor2010

NOTE: I found all of this in 5 minutes of searching the google..... just gotta actually read through some threads. Updated with the latest so people don't have to look so hard.

I feel ya man. Especially since you can pick up an IXXAT for $150-350 on ebay if you are lucky ;)

There are several people on the forum who could send you the app to download. It isn't hard to find if you don't have that ... but you need to make sure this isn't a new IXXAT your looking at online and preferably you get one which is isolated.

The new app won't work with the old device and the new device requires a license key to get the app :/ So only the old device will likely be used by casual hobby modders ... less you own a business and can acquire the new one with license and software.

Yes that one would work. I think I paid $350 for mine so it isn't too far off from the "normal" price.

I have everything set up but an actual native Windows install - I've been running it under emulation on Mac for so long without doing embedded/serial work that I took it for granted to work like that! It won't. I'm setting up Boot Camp next, and in the worst case will find some used Windows netbook for the purpose.

I ordered the USB to CAN adapter,  the seller noted that an additional  serial to OBD adapter  is required?

Negative. You don't need to create a DB9 (serial) to ODBII less you want to. You can hook directly to the controller via a DB9 and use positaps on the wires you need to.

But you should see about grabbing a DB9 cable (female) so you can cut off whatever is on the other end and create your interface for the bike be it a ODBII and or a 3 prong connector for the controller interface. I have BOTH on mine and the ODBII would be required for flashing firmware if you needed to ;)
