DIY Firmware update?
« on: October 02, 2015, 07:06:24 PM »

Has anyone updated their MBB / BMS firmware themselves?

Local dealer is having issues running some pre test script which is claiming they cannot validate the VIN number. They are also claiming they can't figure out what is wrong because of "some unknown modification," to the bike.

I know the VIN on the bike matches the one at the MBB because I have seen it first hand. I imagine they are running the "test" command at the console but idk what test they are running.

If you have done this yourself please message me ... I am tired of having a nearly bricked bike.

So the tech today had this cool harness which had connectors for the ODBII, BMS, MBB, adaptors for 2013 - 2014 (since it was a 2013 adaptor bundle), and USB out as well as DB9 out.

Very nicely made and I asked how long it took to get one and he said forever ... (apparently just like everything else they order from zero :(  ... )

When the tech is running diag tools from zero they have the IXXAT hooked up to this harness via the DB9 connector and the USB from the harness as well. It is kind of odd because I thought the IXXAT was only used for the controller but I was so wrong.

The pins going from the ODBII to the DB9 are likely just CAN traffic as far as I can tell. Then the remaining 4 pins go to the USB cable. Both of these are required for updating / flashing the firmware of the MBB and I think the BMS but we didn't get to the BMS at the time so I cannot confirm.

The 8 pin connector on this harness to the BMS is really tiny and apparently hooks in the front of the battery where the BMS is located behind the rubber grommet up there.

I so want those tools and that harness >__<

Adding some pictures (attached)

One shows the zero diag tool thinking I have a 2014 bike when clearly the serial number says 2013 :/

Another showing the cool harness I was talking about hooked up to USB and IXXAT (only interesting I imagine for those who own a IXXAT lol)
