just another bad mark for zero
« on: September 26, 2015, 07:59:59 AM »

brought my ds to the dealer, a 40 mile drive, to get the power tank installed, was told it's about an hour job. 3 hours later guy comes out and says they can't get it to run, and zero tech wasn't answering phone. About what i expected. so now i gotta wait a week, that is if they can get it running next week.

Bad idea to start a job like that on a Friday. Has the dealer done a few?

I think it has been noted on this board that installing the power tank is a somewhat complex job.  Mine was the first my dealer installed so they made sure to plan for extra time to install it.  A dealer should be able to do it in 3 hours successfully.

Although I agree that getting in touch with a  customer service representative sometimes takes more time than it should.

Too bad. Seems that the dealer is more responsible than Zero in this case. But my overall experience is also that "customer experience" can only be improved if someone cares about the whole chain. And this can only be Zero, which recruited one year ago a VP for quality.

For example I had badly mounted belt that broke 3 times is a row : probably the dealer's responsability but Zero did nothing to make the situation easy (like offering the bloody belt) until I escalated the issue.

In the same situation, Tesla does an incredible job. They have understood that ensuring a strong base of 100% satisfied customers is key, and they probably invest / are ready to allocate more resources to this. They also understand that their business is about experience, not only about making products !

This is bad because Zero's products are really great - spoiling the experience to save 50$ parts is huge mistake.

i'm just glad i decided to trailer the bike there, i was going to ride it and wait. I would still be waiting since they are closed sun and monday. i guess tech support is closed saturdays too. at leat i won't have to wait 6 months like i did for my 2012 motor, and even with the new motor, it would overheat at speed over 65mph. glad to be rid of that pos

It sounds like they fried the BMS trying to fit the power tank!

I once had a hydraulic clutch hose break, on my pickup truck, as I was traveling for a weekend of anticipated fun filed recreation. It was late on Friday afternoon. I managed to get to a dealer by shifting without the clutch. When they told me they wouldn't fix it until Monday mrning this is what I said: "Do you have any idea of the mood I'll be in Monday morning if I have to spend my entire weekend holed up in a flea-bag motel in this little town?" >:(

They had it fixed in an hour and I was on my way again. :)

Just saying,

Hi Flexy- I know time flies when you're having fun, but isn't this just the start of the 2nd week? Bike at the dealer just last Friday 9/25/2015. Not trying to call you out on this- just trying to generate a little positive energy! So the dealer has been able to connect with the factory and parts are being sent. Good news! Rooting for you, the dealer and Zero.

No luck for you flexydude, I've read most of your stories.

For me I will never have a power tank:
1- Risk of issues when installing.
2- More risk of battery management issues after that.
3- Center of gravity gets higher.
4- Slower 0-60 times.

the only reason I even have the power tank is because my dealer gave it to me in trade for my 2010 ds that was dead with only 1300 miles on it, and I got the credit on my 2012 for the 2014. I don't care about slower 0-60 time, this will still be the fastest bike i ever owned, I'm used to riding a drz 400 which isn't very fast, and a suzuki 250 that is even less so.  now my ural, well that thing tops out at 60. The extra range on my zero will be usefull since i live 20 miles from town.

I don't know if this thread is still valid, but when you install a power tank the main bike battery needs to be at 100% full charge.  If the power tank makes it into the system with a higher state of charge the motor drive will not enable.
