Breaking News on Zero's return to the UK!
« on: September 18, 2015, 06:16:31 PM »

Justin is going to hate me for being the person to break this...

I've just received an email from Jason (jasonbrunt@streetbike.co.uk) at StreetBike who has just spoken to Erik, who is the Regional Sales Manager for Europe at Zero Motorcycles.  I quote:

*****************

"Just to let you know, I have spoken to Eric from Zero today, and we are looking to bring in Zero back to the UK, details are sketchy at this moment, but it seems we will be supplying 2015 models, and an exchange deal for customers who own a 2010-12 models at a reduced cost.

Of course Eric talks in Euro’s so we need to make sure everything will work for us, our customers and Zero, to register the bikes will need to go through the DVLA which will be a pain, we register our Suzuki’s and Yamaha’s through a web site with the DVLA, so we can register a bike in five minutes this way, but the Zero’s will need to be posted to the DVLA, so a ten day turn around.

As soon as it all falls into place we will get the information out to our customers, but I wondered if you can post something out for me, the customers that are asking about Zero’s on the forums you’re on, ask them to email me jasonbrunt@streetbike.co.uk , sending their emails, full name and address and telephone numbers, I will get the information once in place out to these customers on the product, prices, as of today all machines are available for the 2015 model range, and of the deal to swop any 2010-12 models on the scheme Zero are currently operating."

*****************

That's the most positive news we've heard for a long time!  I hope that everyone reading this in the UK gets in touch with Jason so he can let you know when everything is sorted.  Itll also give him an idea of how many of you are interested.  Quite a number of people attended the UK Demo Day in July which was really encouraging.

Jason and the Streetbike dealership have demonstrated a real committment to Zero and deserve as much support as we can give them, IMHO.

This is EXCELLENT news. I was just thinking about this today, as I've been talking to Streetbike about getting a 2016 model when they become available/ early next year.

Streetbike still has 2013 Zero info on their website, the prices however seem to have updated to considerably more than the 2015 models currently sell for in the rest of Europe ::), we get to pay for importing twice maybe, once to Europe and again to Britain, then they add 20% sales tax on top of that larger total?
$21,000+ for an S or DS 11.4,  :o
$15,600 for an FX 5.7 :'(
Hope you guys stateside feel a bit better about the prices you pay after reading this;

Haha, thanks Justin! [emoji5]

I think Jason will probably start following this topic, so hopefully he'll get round to doing some work on the website soon. Thanks for pointing that out G.

I got an unexpected further email from Jason last night. He had already got the details through from Erik and said it all looked workable on an initial look.

Jason has already had contact details through from one forum reader and is very happy about that.

Both Erik and Jason are really decent people and I really hope this new venture goes well.

I'm really enjoying F1 2015 Justin, but the sound is rubbish! [emoji8]

I'm getting a new steering wheel tomorrow all being well. I might just check out Dirt Rally.  If you did the sound in F1 2010 then you helped sell a copy of 2015.

I'm going off topic, apologies. It's great that this is all happening now. Hopefully Streetbike will make a few sales before Christmas and be ready for the 2016 models next year.

Interesting to hear the bike trade in program is expanding to the 2015s. I hope it does likewise in the US, possibly once the 2016s are announced.

I think you might have misunderstood a little there Promo. The bike trade in just covers the 'problem years' up to 2012. It does seem that Zero started getting it right a bit more with the 2013 models onwards. The upgraded components on the 2015 models make a much more compelling argument and I'll be very excited if fast charging is an option with the 2016 models.

There is more news from Jason at Streetbike. I'll select all and copy his email into my next post.

Hi Tom,

It is all falling in to place, I hope by next week we will have an official price list, an exchange cost for customers who have a 2010-11-12 models, some basic spares, and maybe a 2015-6 demo machine or machines organised for customers to try.

I believe Zero have listed us as an official dealer for the UK or will be doing so soon, and anybody we have details regarding the Zero products we will send an email out to them giving them some information on product and what we are doing in store.

So everything is looking very good, Zero will be sending some technical support over for our workshop guys, so I should imagine we will be  up and running sometime early October.

So thankyou to everyone out there, and to you for your continued support regarding Streetbike and Zero’s return to the UK, we need to move the product out from a specialist product to a main stream product, and judging by what I am seeing compared to 2012 when I first set eyes on a Zero product I believe we are now turning that corner, bring on some government subsidy and we will be away.

Cheers

This does of course give me something of a dilemma. I decided to buy a Honda NC750S DCT in April. Brand new.  I cannot fault the bike for everything it does. However, despite breaking my wrist test riding an SR in July, I can't stop thinking about buying one. I really enjoy twisting the throttle and getting smooth acceleration on the Honda. I just know that a Zero would be completely smooth both accelerating and decelerating. As refined as the Honda is, it can't escape from the fact that it has to change gear. The NC just doesn't have the torque and power that my old Fazer had. I have to admit I miss that. I've been putting some serious thought into a VFR 1200FD GT. It has the torque and power plus good wind protection which would help on my commute as I'm now doing 20 minutes on the M1 at 90 each way.  Expensive for a new one though and running costs will be high.

I know it's a first world problem, but I'm over privileged, middle class and bored dammit! ;-)

P.S. All credit for these developments with Zero in the U.K. is due to Jason at Streetbike, Erik and others at Zero, Justin, Mike and all the good folks that have actually bought a Zero or have expressed a genuine interest. I salute you. Perhaps I can buy Justin's bike off him when he's ready to flog it next year. Who knows?

Yeah its looking really positive, I've been chatting with Charlie at Streetbike and I'm just waiting on the first set of prices. They know I'm in the market for a 2016 SR with a Power Tank. If find you do want the 2013, then you can have first call on her.

The UK government plug in car grant subsidy change to include motorcycles was announced in March 2015 and was supposed to be in place by summer of 2015 reducing sticker prices by up to £1500 or roughly $2400 on Zeros and other electric motorcycles. Zeros would probably have qualified for the full subsidy but I can't find ant further details of how it was to be set up.

Then we had an election and the Lib Dems, who were pushing the green agenda were booted out of the coalition as the UK Tory party (G.O.P. equivelent in UK also funded by big business advertising right wing media) gained an outright majority.

Before we get too excited, after the Tory government's new agenda has been "corrected" by the big brown envelope oil lobby, summer has officialy ended and there has been no further mention of this ever happening, take a look at the recent change made to the original announcement reference page in the top blue bar here;
https://www.gov.uk/government/news/government-revs-up-motorcycle-market
You would think that a couple of months before the Paris climate change summit would have been a great time to follow through with government action on promisses, which the Tory's were party to as majority coalition members, by launching the new scheme!
Without brown envelopes full of cash, I do hope Jason can lobby the government too or we might be waiting for another change in UK government which adds another 5 years ::).
